hey all! In neighbors, there lives an anty, today she called me to fix her PC. what i figured out that Pc's operating system was corrupt. It had Windows XP installed so i took my windows XP cd and INSTALLED in her PC. but after installation, the Pc was working still slow. Now i am not sure what is the reason behind it. Can there still be viruses hidden in some other drives?
Was the install over the top of the existing XP OS without first formating the HDD? Did you use your own Validation number for the install? If so, the installation will be illegal and you won't be able to download vital updates. Somewhere on the PC (often on the bottom or rear of the case) there should be a validation code that can be used for online validation. Once validated, all XP updates should be done first and foremost. A lot of programs will not work correctly without Net-framework 2 and SP 3 and if your copy of windows does not have these already on your disk, XP will need them to work correctly with some programs. Cheers, Lee
few things to check:
1. hdd error, use chkdsk /r this will try to recover files saved in a faulty segment.
2. registry check, use ccleaner to do it. <– WTT does not recommend automated registry repair/optimize unless performed by expert! Edited by Doug
3. upgrade your RAM.
4. update devices drivers, try the tool here: hxxp://xpdrivers.com/index.cfm

Jaydee, you've previously been warned that WTT does not endorse automated and monetized driver scan utilities!
okay thanks a lot for so many great tips. I am going to try all these one by one but i have taken compensation from her till next weekend. Thanks

Upgrading RAM (or any other hardware) is not recommended at this stage as there is no evidence that it is the cause or is even contributing to the initial problem you outlined in your first post.

If after a clean, legal and fully updated fresh install of XP, the PC in question is still having the same problems, hardware issues can then be considered. Until then, it might be a wise choice to keep the horse before the cart and not vis-a-vis

A professional step-by-step approach and method to do a clean (and legal) XP install can be found at this link in WTT forums:
