My dell laptop has just got a mind of its own and during use sometimes it starts pressing buttons. I thought it was a virus of some sort but when i restart, you can still hear the beeping as if its still pushing keys. If i leave it be for about a day, when i turn it on it seems ok until after a few minutes of use. it seems to be doing it after it has warmed up.
Does anybody know what this might be?
I wouldn't rule-out malware infection just yet, and certainly not because it only happens after the machine has 'warmed up".
What have you done to assure that the machine/system is not infected?
I use antivir and update it regularly. But it the laptop acts as if the enter key is continually pressed down and it isnt. i try and press the enter key manually hoping it would reset it but it does nothing. when i reboot it still seems to be pressing enter. this is what lead me to believe it wasnt malware. Might flashing bios help?
Any chance that you spilled something on your keyboard?
Have you used compressed air to blow out any debris from the keys?
Or just turned it upside down and gently tap the case to encourage debris to fall out?
I have tried to clean any debris. At the moment it is only one key thats stroking.
i havent tried comressed air though. i might get myself a bottle and give that a try. i hope its only dirty.
Not sure if it might have anything to do with it, but i used to leave it on for long periods of time.
Hi, I suggest you try this:
Connect a known good external keyboard to your computer….. mahe sure the computer is powered down first!
Then restart your computer….. any difference using the external keyboard?
