I recently had an issue with a spyware problem that was resolved with What the Tech assistance. Our desktop computer is now acting normally except that we have no sound whenever we are on the internet. The sound does work fine with games and windows media music. We also lost the sound icon on our task bar from which we regularly adjust the volume.
Adobe flash player 10.1 was already successfully installed on my computer. Tried installing it again. Rebooted computer. Still no sound on internet applications.
Post # 4 - at flash player test site, received msg that adobe flash player is successfully installed. Version 10.1.82.76
Post # 5 - installed Mozilla Firefox. still no sound. slow. some sites did not open at all
Post # 6 - SWF is set to shockware flash object
Post # 7 - after reading the warnings re resetting IE 8 to its default state, I am not sure I am prepared to lose all the things noted. I want to consider that carefully and check with the "boss" before taking that action.
Ron, got some suggestions from a few of ther other folks here:
Paws: Click Start, Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Audio and under the area for Midi playback devices there will usually be 2 or more devices available via the dropdown arrow….. have him try a different one! and see if this does the trick.
Appleoddity: under the Audio and the Voice tabs, make sure that playback and recording is set to the internal sound device and not something like a modem device. Usually you'll find one of those got set to the internal modem device or something else and that is why there is sound in only a few places. This includes flash.
