I'm having some issues with my CPU. I usually leave the computer on 24/7 and recently I've found it 'looping' in the POST mode after being on for 12 hrs or so almost like someone pushed the reset button. The only way to stop the looping is to shut it down completely and restart it. I also find when its looping that the time and day are incorrect in the taskbar and have to be reset. In addition I get an error message that the Common Event Manager has a problem and needs to close. I have an ASUS MB which has a program called SixEngine. During reboot I get the error message that it cannot load Asspindowntimeout.dll and it closes out the program.

I suspect there's some type of malware or virus but nothing is finding one. I have run MBAM and I have CCleaner, and my AV is CA Security Suite. All are working but the scans don't turn anything up! I am running WinXP SP3 with 4GB RAM and an E8400 Intel DuoCore CPU. I'm also including a HiJack This log that I just ran. Any assistance will be appreciated

Thanks,

Taz

Is there any additional information included when you receive the Error Alerts.

For instance (as an example - not saying this is what you see), here is a common Error Stop Code: STOP: 0x0000007E (0x00000005, 0x805E492E, 0xF89303BC, )xF89300B8)

Anything like that?

If not, then please Turn Off Restart Automatically function.

Here's how:

Here's how to turn off auto-restart: (you can turn it back on after you are finished with this repair by reversing the same steps)

1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System
2. Go to Advanced
3. Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings
4. Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart"

Turning off Auto-Restart should cause a Blue Screen BSOD Error Warning Display.
In that Error warning you should be able to find additional information about the problem. (such as the example I provided above)
Please post any additional error code or stop code warnings that you receive after turning off auto-restart

Please Run PCPitstop Overdrive to give us an overview of your machine hardware/software/performance.

Here's how:

You must use your Internet Explorer for this procedure. (doesn't work so well in Firefox or others). If your machine is running Vista or Windows 7, you must Select IE to “Run as Administrator”. After completing PCPitstop OverDrive you can close your IE browser and re-open it Normally so that you are no longer running as administrator.

Go to: http://www.pcpitstop.com
Click on "Free Computer Check-up" listed below PC Pitstop OverDrive
In the User Login - Click on "Sign up FREE!"
You'll need to submit a valid email address and create your own password, then click - Create Account(button)

Now enter your email address and password to Log in, Select - Scan this system Now!(button)
You will then be asked to download an ActiveX component and allow it to install.
It is safe and does not compromise your privacy.
Follow the on-screen prompts to install the ActiveX and to allow the Full Tests to be run on your machine.

The Full Tests take about 2 1/2 - 3 minutes on most machines.
When complete, a Results - Summary - Recommended Fixes will be displayed.

Please post the URL internet address, from your Results, back here into this Topic Thread so that we can review the configuration and present performance levels of your machine.

Note: During the graphics 2D and graphics 3D testing, your screen will display some rapidly moving objects.
If you are sensitive to visual flashing, it may cause dizziness. Therefore, look away from the screen during that portion of the testing.

After reviewing the results we will be more informed and may be able to provide better recommendations for you to work towards improving your machine's performance.

While PCPitstop does offer a variety of Paid Products, the PCPitstop OverDrive testing is FREE. Please ignore the references to Paid Products. At WTT we prefer to provide manual solution instructions that you can apply directly to your machine.

Also please run Everest 2.20 to give us a view of Voltages and Temperatures

Here's how:
Download Everest 2.20 here for free: http://majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

After download, Select to Run Everest 2.20
Then in the Everest 2.20 panel, Navigate to - Computer - Sensors
Create a Quick Report in Plain Text

Include the Quick Report - Sensors in your next reply.

In your next reply please post:
  • Any additional Error Code information
  • Link to PCPitstop Overdrive Results
  • Quick Report - Sensors

Minor issue…..IE will not let me download PCPitstop or run the scan. It's being blocked by DEP. I have rest all my security settings to low but apparently it doesn't like that either. Clicking on the blue toolbar when instructed doesn't get the Active X file to download. Any ideas? I have IE 8.
Tried your suggestion…..it won't let PC Pitstop load from IE w/no add-ons. Even tried forcing it with Firefox but no go. Do you have another program or is there something else I can do with this one?
Let's have a look at Everest - Sensors - QuickReport and any additional information you may receive from Error Messages after turning off Auto-Start

And we can get a look at StartUps using CodeStuff Starters

Please consider running this simple utility that will help you get control of programs and processes that you wish to have running active, or not.

CodeStuff-Starters
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/Starter.html

Download and install, agreeing to the licensing terms and allow to install with all of the default settings as preselected in the installation wizard.

When you finally allow CodeStuff-Starters to run
It will preselect StartUps Tab -

  • Click on File
  • Select - save as .Plain Text (name the report file - Startups AUG1.txt

In your next reply, post the file as an attached file (use browse and upload buttons – at the bottom-right corner of your topic posting window where you are typing your next reply)

Please do not make any changes with Code-Stuff Starters, until after you post the requested information above and receive recommendations from a helper here.

Best Regards
Ok Doug….my work schedule is weird so give me a bit of time to get to the PC. I did what you requested. Here's the startup file for AUG 2 as an attachment. I also received some error codes as you would expect. They are Stop: 0x0000000F4 ( 0x00000003, 0x890F2DA0, 0x0890F2F14, 0x805D2954 ) Hope that helps? I'm outta here at 9pm CST as I work at 4am….but I;ll be off early at 3pm CST and will look for messages and will execute anything you suggest then. Thanks, Jim
Thanks for the reports, tasman27

They provide some help, but don't narrow it down much.

Temperatures are fine.

Stop: 0x0000000F4 with the 03 parameter suggests a hardware problem.

Since "hardware problem" covers a lot of territory, that means you'll have more diagnostic work before getting this sorted out.

Possible culprits include:
RAM
Hard Drive
Cables and/or connectors
CMOS battery
PCI and PCIe cards

Before you proceed, please thoroughly read: http://forums.whatthetech.com/index.php?showtopic=103649

Question:
Since you state that time/date become inaccurate when this problem occurs, I'd suspect the CR 2032 CMOS battery to be at least partially contributing to the problem
Fortunately CR 2032 is commonly available at Camera, office supply, and electronics stores. (two-pack for around $3.79US)

Replace your CMOS Battery.
It might just fix your entire problem, but if not, will not have been an expensive experiment.

Please run Window Memory Diagnotic:
Read here for instructions and download link: http://forums.whatthetech.com/index.php?showtopic=103823

Please go to the website of your Hard Drive manufacturer.
Download their Disk Health, or Disk Diagnostic scan utility
Run it as recommended.

Doug, I haven't replaced the CMOS battery yet but I did run a diagnostic from the Seagate site. It basically says my HDD is bad using the S.M.A.R.T scan. I'm not sure whether to believe it yet or not. Going to replace the battery shortly and check the wires in the case. While the case doesn't move, I'll check it anyway. The HD is only 18 mos old so I find it difficult to believe its bad. Its a Maxtor 500GB 7200 RPM druive with the bearings in the drive. I'm going to check the warranty as I believe it was a 3 yr deal. I'll be back to you shortly on t may have to tap your knowledge on how to save all the files and programs from this drive and transfer it over without losing anything in the process just to be safe. I'm minimizing the PC by doing this on my laptop….seems the PC wants to crash every 20 mins or so now…. Jim
Hey Jim, I know it's hard to believe that after only 18 months of service your HD is checking BAD vis S.M.A.R.T., but that technology is pretty good for assessing HDs. And of course there are infrequent instances of DOA HDs. I like the Western Digital 500gb and 640gb. <– of these, I recommend the "Black" version since it has 32mb cache and 5 year warranty I haven't yet tried one of the WD 1TB HDs When you buy a replacement WD HD, it should come with a complimentary version of Acronis for migrating the contents of your old drive onto the new. Most other recognized brands have similar complimentary functions. Or you can download the WD complimentary version of Acronis for migrating, from the WD website. Since you've had a system problem and now have a S.M.A.R.T. warning, it would be a good idea to use that machine as little as possible until you have your system and files migrated across to a new HD. Let us know how it all works out.
Doug, Thanks for the help! Glad I found this out now and not later when disaster strikes! I really don't need anything larger than 750GB and will probably go back with a 500….I've only used 10% of it now and don't foresee that number exceeding the drive capacity anytime soon. Don't do games, videos or pix so I'm good. I do like music but have other toys for that…..:) Off to go shopping…..thanks for the help! Jim
Doug, Thanks for all the help! I have the new drive and its up and working. Was able to save (so far) a lot of the information on the old one thanks in large part to your quick response and prognosis of the old drive. I'm all good here for now….just a lot of work coming up to get back to operating normally. Taz
