Does anyone know how to run the phone wires when you are using the fax with Win XP and an answering machine? I split the line from the wall and ran one to the PC(which has the fax) and the other to the answering machine. I have no one to test this with so I need corroboration.
Thank you for the referrals - they did help. Tech support at Canon for the Pixma 310 was poor, however, I luckily was put in touch with an enthusiastic employee who gave me comprehensive information, not in the manual, within a reasonable time frame. It is my practice to send letters of commendation to companies who have such employees because I believe it helps everyone in the very long run. One example of information not in the manual which one would not know intuitively is that voice mail has to be discontinued. Another is that Canon displays low ink when there are 50 full text pages left thus causing an issue with the machine. I was given a workaround by this good tech person. Thank you again for your referrals and continued support. I am now fax ready to send and receive. It sometimes can be a bit troublesome when some device or system you are used to, needs upgrading. My old carbon paper fax had the amazing ability to discern between faxes and phone calls regardless of ring settings, voice mails or other factors. If anyone else is reading this, I would take the advice this forum gave me long before I purchased my all in one last Oct. '09'. Buy components not all in one machines. Get a good quality scanner, apart from a good quality printer/copier and the same with the fax. The all in one gives you a little of each but the quality is not as good as separate machines, IMHO. The last example of low quality is ocr. When you buy the all in one you get the low end version of Nuance - Omni Soft, for example. You can upgrade from ver. 3 to ver 12 but if you bought the machine separately you would see the specs would be considerably better than in the all in one. Thanx and hope this helps.
