Hi,
Anyone who can - Please help ASAP as I’m direly in need of assistance Thanks so much.
Problem:
I clicked on MS Excel and instead of opening program, it started running a windows installer. I Ctl-alt-del killed it & tried getting into the program straight from one of my many MS-excel files. Again-same thing. I restored to an earlier restore point of 6/23/2010, frantic that some virus, Trojan, etc ‘got me’ while surfing for prices on items I’m selling, and for addresses for agencies I need to write to. (Or, did one of the scammers that answered my Craigstlist ads have something in their emails?) I’ve also had countless other system shutdowns – though that could be from overheating from crappy HP laptop batteries despite extra fan underneath – also the thing freezes up a lot , gives errors all the time (but there are so many I just can’t remember them) – not sure, but could be because I’m pretty low on storage & need to get another external hard drive & dump more of my pic’s off of this – I just can’t afford the $ or time for either right now.
I’m a real ‘down & outer’, and DESPARATELY need my laptop to work to either sell something, or get some work doing, you guessed it, MS EXCEL (or QuickBooks PRO) from home right now, due to health disabilities & hubby’s unpaid/on hold federal unemployment. I can’t afford Rx’s, food, gas & worse, can’t afford some turd hacking my laptop & killing everything. Something must have happened, so to find out more, I let the “Windows installer” run just a hair longer when I clicked “Excel” again, and it was going to actually run the Windows Office Standard 2003 Edition installation – totally w/o merit as I’ve had that installed on board since getting my XP/Media edition laptop 5 years ago. I kept up w/MS updates, until one that’s due now – except for maybe some recent IE ones ‘cause I stopped using IE browser in favor of Firefox quite some time ago. Lastly, Word 2003 is fine, so why would just Excel be affected. Also, a search of files changed/accessed since yesterday (when I last used Excel files), showed all kinds of Outlook files (seemed to be accessed from AVG), but I don’t use Outlook at all, except for the very rare time it loads by accident when I click an email link on a website. I always back out of those damned things.
I recognize many file names on the hijackthis file below, but don’t know if the actual files here are the right ones; i.e., 5th item down – Is EpsonToolBandKickerClass a valid item (for my Epson C4600 that crapped out lately, still show under printers, stopped scanning entirely, prints blank pages (despite changing ink), but won’t actually pull up the software when I need to find it to troubleshoot or to find the scanning functions or other applications)…
I’ve repeatedly tried uninstalling MS messenger, google update service, & Websearch bar, but all still seem to appear from items on the highjack this list.
I do have a Creative sound card & all kinds of related software, but don’t know if the items that show here are valid ones or some kinds of copycat files.
Something I saw looked weird from 6/25/2010, so I did a “Search” on files changed on 6/25, and see \Application data\Miscrosoft\Office” files named “Excell1.pip” and “OIS11.pip” had both been changed that day if that had any bearing.
Thanks for any help you can offer – either directly here or sent to me at the following email account opened just for this purpose.
