I have one very simple query: I have AVG Anti-Virus version 8.5 but its security components include Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, Anti-Rootkit, E-mail Scanner, Linkscanner, Web Shield and Resident Shield. So, my query is there are settings for each security component but there is no separate way to specify that scan the computer for anti-virus or scan the computer for anti-spyware except for Anti-Rootkit. When I scan my computer, would it automatically scan my computer using all the security components installed (Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, Anti-Rootkit, E-mail Scanner, Linkscanner, Web Shield and Resident Shield)?
Hello. Some of those components are not used during a "on demand" scan. Linkscanner, E-mail scanner, web shield, and resident shield are all used for background scanning and monitoring. As their name suggests, it scans web links, e-mail, and files that you access. When you perform a scan, yes, it uses every necessary component to scan for all infections that it can recognize with the exception of the rootkit scanner which I believe AVG has an option in the same location to also scan for rootkits at the same time. It is optional because it takes more time, and there is a message stating that.
