[Closed] Malware Infection Windows XP

My computer is infected with a bunch of malware that I can't get rid of. A couple of weeks ago I had a problem with the trojan fakealert. It deleted all my restore points, it made it impossible to edit the registry, and it didn't let me access Windows Safe Mode. I downloaded MalwareBytes and it got rid of most of the problems. I was able to edit the registry and reactivated the restore points, but I still couldn't access Safe Mode. I ran a full system scan from malwarebytes, McAfee antivirus, and adware .. none found a single thread. However, I noticed I still had some sort of malware since my google search toolbar redirected the links of the search results to websites full of spyware. If I went directly to google in the navigation toolbar, the search results were fine.

Now, yesterday when I rebooted my laptop, the only windows theme available is the classic one, and all the other Windows XP themes are gone. I still can browse the internet and everything. Then I try to restore my PC using System Restore, but all the restore points are gone again! I ran malwarebytes again, but it didn't find anythingm, as well as mcaffe. I downloaded the latest version of Adware, it asked to reboot my system before running a scan, and when I reboot all the user accounts are gone, only the administrator one is left. I loggin, try to run Adware but it crashes after a few seconds. I'm sure it's some sort of malware causing it to crash when it tries to remove it. I'm not able to connect to the internet. I tried a bunch of different things to restore my connection following different instructions from microsoft's website, but it doesn't work. I'm using a different PC, but I ran both DDS and Hijackthis.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I can connect to the internet now because I deleted a reg key with hijackthis that was enabling a proxy… Then I ran hijackthis again and that's the log I posted here. I should also say that I downloaded combofix and tried running it, and it was working fine.. but then it crashed the system in the middle of scanning and I got the blue screen of death :( I'll just wait to see if someone can help me here. Btw, I forgot to mention that that's what I get when I try to go into safe mode, I get the blue screen.

DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix or HijackThis fixes without supervision.

Doing so could make your pc inoperatible and could require a full reinstall of your OS, losing all your programs and data.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

We've been seeing some Java infections lately.
Go here and follow the instructions to clear your Java Cache

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a checkmark/tick in the box on the left side on these:

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Ok, thanks for you help.
So first I couldn't delete the file
C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\pgfr.tmp
access was denied. I tried different ways of deleting it, but I just couldn't. I had to reboot the system, and then I was able to delete it.However, I'm not able to connect to the internet again. I get 'limited or no connectivity.' I tried fixing it, but still not working. So, I ran a new log from hijackthis and I'm transferring that log to a different PC. Here's the new log.

If need be, download the tools needed to a flash drive or other removable media, and run them from the USB device.


Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.

Download Combofix from any of the links below but rename it to ABCD.exe before saving it to your desktop.

Double click on the ABCD.exe ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt so we can continue cleaning the system.

**Note: If Combofix (ABCD) won't run from the desktop, try running it from the USB device.

Scroll down to Step 1, and select the download that's appropriate for your Operating System. Download the file & save it as it's originally named.

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

  • Drag the setup package onto ComboFix.exe and drop it.

  • Follow the prompts to start ComboFix and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Recovery Console.

  • At the next prompt, click 'Yes' to run the full ComboFix scan.

  • When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply using Copy/Paste.


Notes:

Give it atleast 20-30 minutes to finish if needed.

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Hi,
Ok so here's the update on the state of my PC.
I followed the instructions, and while executing combofix my system crashed. I got the blue screen with the message saying BAD_POOL_CALLER caused the system to crash. I restarted the system and it automatically began to check the disk for errors. It found some corrupted files and removed them. Somehow my connection to the internet was fixed, but the ABCD.exe file (combofix) disappeared. I don't know if my PC is clean now, but I doubt it. I still can't access Safe Mode, and Adware stops in the middle of scanning.

Please download GooredFix from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop

  • Ensure all Firefox windows are closed.
  • To run the tool, double-click it (XP), or right-click and select Run As Administrator (Vista).
  • When prompted to run the scan, click Yes.
  • It doesn't take long to run, once it is finished move onto the next step



Download TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.

  • Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Extract the file and run it.
  • Reboot your machine and see if the infection is gone
