Is the LCD screen the culprit?

I accidentally spilled water on my Acer Aspire One D250 netbook. I quickly took out the battery and dried it for a few days. Afterwards, the netbook worked but the left half of the screen is very dim (not dark) where you can barely make out the images. The right half displays normally. Also if you look closely, you can make out a water stain in the center of the left (bad) half. If I attach the netbook to an external monitor, the display is good, so I know that the video card and motherboard are good and the problem lies with the lcd screen. Do these symptoms probably indicate that the screen needs to be replaced or is it the inverter only? I don't want to replace both since it could get expensive. Thanks!
Hi, and welcome to the WTT forums. Sorry to hear of the problems with your computer. The fact that your computer is able to show a picture correctly on an external VDU indicates that all is well with the Video adapter within the netbook (as you said) The main job of the invertor is to boost up the voltage to the screen up to 150V or so, and if you are getting half a picture it maybe that the invertor is Ok….however the good news is that apart from the VDU internal cable this is the least expensive component to replace…… Often the simplest and most effective method of repair is to replace the whole screen unit including the back lights, invertor and cabling…….ebay is a source of components but you will need to check carefully that you are getting the correct component that will work on your netbook and that are electrically safe! Most repair shops (including mine) need to charge so much for this type of repair (soucing brand new components etc, dismantling the netbook and then reassembling and testing all is well that often it can be cheaper to buy a new netbook (look for discounted offers etc) and then sell your damaged one as suitable only for spares or repair…..
