My computer was recently infected. It was one of those things where it says your computer is infected, and some internet security (Security Tool) starts running a scan and tells you to download it. I have managed to get rid of it, but it brings me to a question. What internet security or combo of tools (ie Avg+ adaware+whatever) would you recommend? I know a lot of places recommend something different, but as this site has helped me so much in the past I thought it best to start here. Thanks.
Though some features of browsers, and some third-party add-ons, and some security programs running active may "warn/alert" the user to an anticipated collision of the type to which you refer, the best defense is to just not go there.

All else is removal after the fact.

Add-ons such as Ad-blocker and no-script for Firefox can be helpful.
Third-party rating utilities such as McAfee site advisor and Web-of-Trust are of some, but dubious value because they tend to have false positives based on popularity of a site, and/or a consensus aversion to legitimate sites that have a paid product inclusion offering.

I personally like MVPS Host File and find that it pretty much keeps a browser away from the spyware that is loaded in third-party cookies and page advertisements.

For an overall recommendation about security tools that you should know about and use, have a look here:

Thanks for the compliment about our site being useful to you in the past.
