My computer has been hit with the "security tool". I would like some help with the cleaning of my computer. I have read the "are you infected topic" and will follow those instructions. I am a novice, not necessarily a newbie… I won't be able to get started until later tonite, probably after 7Central, but wanted to at least get myself in the queue. Also, any advice on doing all of the preliminary steps with the security tools windows constantly popping up?
Try the scans in safemode

check in the task manager

see if there are any of the following processes - if they are present - end process:

smss32.exe
winlogon32.exe
winupdate86.exe
msa.exe
a.exe
b.exe
c.exe
notepad.exe
41.exe
logon.exe
critical_warning.html
lsm32.sys
opeia.exe
IS2010.exe
xxxsysguard.exe

just do the following scans:

Please download DDS from either of these links

LINK 1
LINK 2

and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds.pif to run the tool.
  • When done, two DDS.txt's will open.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.

Please include the contents of the following in your next reply:

DDS.txt
Attach.txt.

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here or here.
  • Extract the contents of the zipped file to desktop.
  • Double click GMER.exe. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent .
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan…click on NO.

    [external image: Posted Image]
Click the image to enlarge it
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following …
    • Sections
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in your next reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<— ROOKIT" entries
Tried from 9-11 last night to post a reply, but couldn't get it to work! Anyway… I followed the instructions below is the info…

Please do the following:

  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in

  • Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post them in your next reply.
I can't easily access internet for my personal laptop (the one infected), from my office. Will it work if I save the downloads to a flash drive and launch them from the flash drive on my personal laptop? If not, then I will do this tonite when I can access internet.
I forgot to do all of the pre-downloads from the "Are you infected" page. I can't get the sysrestorepoint to execute on my personal laptop, but I can do it on my work laptop… any idea why?
last night from my home network I could not access this forum at all. I don't know why i could get to it the first time and not later. I couldn't perform any of the latest downloads at all. I couldn't even save to a flash drive. Any idea why I couldn't access this forum from my home netowork? I could get to anything and everything except for this site. I ended up getting it cleaned off through a free trial service. Thanks for your help, I know that it would have worked well had I been able to access the forum.
The infection likely blocked the URL, did you try typing the URL directly into the address bar? If you wish to post fresh DDS and GMER logs, I can check and make sure all signs of the infection are gone.
