Hi,

I am having trouble with talking to people on either Skype or MSN–the person on the other end could not hear my voice, although I can hear fine on my side. Also, whenever I am making some clicks, for example, on some photos inside a photo folder on the desktop, it will give me the following message:

"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. For more information about this error, click here. Debug Close"

Just want to let you know that I have done a system restore on my own yesterday and the Ram works a little better after that; however, problems mentioned above still persist.

I have AVG, Malwarebytes, zonealarm, superantispyware and more; however, only Ad-aware and spybot were able to detect some problems. It looks like my computer got some redirected hostfiles and Win32.FraudLoad; somehow they can be easily re-activated after a reboot although I tried time after time to delete them out.

Below are the details of what Ad-aware and spybot found on my computer. DDS.txt, GMER.txt, and attachment will all be followed. I am not sure if those redirected hostfiles are still in the system or not because Ad-aware is not working anymore after that system restore. Also, uploading attach.txt has failed, so I am just going to paste in the post. Thanks so very much in advance!

Hi,

Please do the following:

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.

Also, after a reboot, winpatrol is asking me whether or not to allow a change. Below is the content:

"Scotty the windows watchdog is on patrol and has detected a change to one of your file type associations. .URL

The program currently associated with this file type is:
Run a DLL as an App

C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ieframe.dll,OpenURL %|

A change was made to use the following program for this file type.

Run a DLL as an App

Microsoft Corporation
rundll32.exe ieframe.dll,OpenURL %|

Is this change ok? Thanks"
Hi,

It's OK to allow the change.

Please do the following:

  • Please go to VirSCAN.org FREE on-line scan service
  • Copy and paste the following file path into the "Suspicious files to scan" box on the top of the page:

    c:\windows\system32\sferunnum.dll

  • Click on the Upload button
  • If a pop-up appears saying the file has been scanned already, please select the ReScan button.
  • Once the Scan is completed, click on the "Copy to Clipboard" button. This will copy the link of the report into the Clipboard.
  • Paste the contents of the Clipboard in your next reply.

Do the same for the following file:

c:\program files\kiuys\egqq.exe
(if it still exists)

  • The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. <– very important
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Run an on-line scan with Kaspersky

Using Internet Explorer or Firefox, visit Kaspersky On-line Scanner

1. Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.
2. To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
  • Close any open programs
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
3. Click Run at the Security prompt.
The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database.
Please be patient as this can take several minutes.
  • Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
  • Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
  • Click View scan report at the bottom.

Hi,

First of all, after posting a combofix log here yesterday, I have scanned with Ad-aware and removed the following malware although knowing that they might still be able to come back to the system:

Hostfile Entry engine.awaps.net(127.0.0.1) @ 273
Hostfile Entry ads2.expatica.com(127.0.0.1) @ 706
Hostfile Entry www.hit-counter-download.com(127.0.0.1) @ 914
Hostfile Entry dl.jiangmin.com(127.0.0.1) @ 1067
Hostfile Entry ads.mcafee.com(127.0.0.1) @ 1227
Hostfile Entry directads.mcafee.com(127.0.0.1) @ 1228
Hostfile Entry www-avast.com(127.0.0.1) @ 5879
Hostfile Entry om.symantec.com(127.0.0.1) @ 10501
Hostfile Entry a.answers.com(127.0.0.1) @ 10885
Hostfile Entry microsoft.com.org(127.0.0.1) @ 12862
Hostfile Entry www.www.microsoft.com.org(127.0.0.1) @ 12863
Hostfile Entry wdcs.trndmicro.com(127.0.0.1) @ 15040

Anyhow, I said that because I am not sure if Combofix or the Ad-aware scan yesterday has anything to do with my not being able to find "c:\program files\kiuys\egqq.exe," and "c:\windows\system32\sferunnum.dll" now. So I have just skipped the Virscan.org Free online scan, and gone to the next step instead. Anyhow, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware has just finished its scan and said "The scan completed successfully. No malicious items were detected. A log file has been saved to the logs folder."

Couple small questions here:
1, I edited this post now because I have just spent a few very long hours on Kaspersky website by using Firefox and it just never finish Database updating; it kind of stops updating at 18%. I did turn off my AVG Resident Shield and exit other programs. Could you tell me what I can to prevent this from being stuck half way? I remember I had troubles like this in the past too and I had to start all over again, very time consuming.

2. Also, I don't quiet understand how I got all the malware mentioned above because:
1). I have real time protection for virus, spyware, malware, adware and I have a Firewall too and I made full scans of all on a regular basis.
2). I am pretty careful with browsing websites
3). I scanned almost anything before opening a file or installation of a software
4). The only website that I usually go play chess game at is QQ.com; however nothing suspicious was ever detected.

Overall, my laptop is running pretty well including mouse clicks, webpages or programs loading are all very smooth. However, I am really bothered by all the redirected hostsfile, and voice transfer problems on Skype and MSN.

Thanks again!
I tried again and Kaspersky is giving me more disappointment. From 8am to now 3pm, the database updates only get to 19%. I wish I can upload the attachment so that you can see it yourself.
Dir you scan the file at Virscan?

did you complete the scan with Malwarebytes?

If so, please post the logs:

Try this online scan instead:

Go here to run an online scanner from ESET.

  • Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activeX control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked and the Scan Archives option is ticked.
  • Click on Advanced Settings, ensure the options Scan for potentially unwanted applications, Scan for potentially unsafe applications, and Enable Anti-Stealth Technology are ticked.
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\Eset\Eset Online Scanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic and also let me know how things are now.

Please run this file as well:

Please download HostsXpert
  • Unzip HostsXpert to it's own folder in a convenient place such as C:\HostsXpert
  • Run: HostsXpert.exe
  • Click: Restore MS Hosts File
  • Click: Replace
  • Click: OK
  • Click: Make ReadOnly
  • Close HostsXpert.

Please advise how the computer is running now and if there are any outstanding issues.
