Greetings to all!
I have a wireless router at my house and it works great. I have multiple computers, a PS3 and a printer connected to it all wirelessly. I am building a guest house which will be over 200 feet away from my wireless router with many walls to go through, so the signal will not make it.
Can I buy a second wireless router and connect it to my cable in my guest house and have it be part of my network in my house?
…Be able to share the printer etc.
I think the main way people solve this problem is they buy wireless accesspoints to repeat the signal but I think this may not work due to the distance.
Please sort my problem out
Thankyou
Hi
The range is a bit extreme and you may have problems with wireless, however you may get it to work just fine the way you suggest, but speed will be very slow at long range!.
Some other suggestions for you..
1 Run an Ethernet cable between the two dwellings..200 feet length should be fine, and cost will only be a few pounds (or dollars)
2 If both dwellings have their electricity supply connected to the same electric meter…ie a common connection, then consider a "network over mains" connection
a reasonably fast connection (well much faster than wireless!) can be had for about £30 for the two…one plugs into the mains electrical supply socket near your router in the main dwelling, and the other can be plugged into a mains electricity supply socket in the guest house……. or any other electrical supply socket (served by the same meter)
Using this system your broadband can be accessed at any electrical socket throughout the 2 dwellings…
