Since my ancient Sony VAIO (2004) is going down the drain sooner or later, I was playing around with Unlocker. Well one thing for sure was that not all my documents and photos were in a good order. Half a year ago or more, I messed around with the permissions (on folders) with the Windows 7 RC installed on the same drive. There, I locked access to my My Documents folder from Windows XP. I played with Unlocker and attempted to delete the "My Documents" folder, because Unlocker does not send it away to the Recycle Bin. It kills it. I cannot access "My Documents". I cannot create a "My Music" or "My Video" folder. Is there any possible fix for this? Or is this beyond fixing?
Boot to Safe Mode, login as Administrator (no password unless you specifically added one). To take ownership of a file or folder tree (like My Documents), follow these steps: 1. Right-click the file that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties. 2. Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if one appears). 3. Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab. 4. In the Name list, click Administrator, or click the Administrators group, and then click OK. The administrator or the Administrators group now owns the file. To change the permissions on the files and folders under this folder, do the following: a. Click Add. b. In the Enter the object names to select (examples) list, type the user or group account that you want to give access to the file. For example, type Administrator. c. Click OK. d. In the Group or user names list, click the account that you want, and then select the check boxes of the permissions that you want to assign that user. e. When you are finished assigning permissions, click OK. See if that gives you access to My Documents from XP.
