I was browsing the internet earlier today and browsing became really slow and sluggish compared to normal performance. Desktop then shutdown by itself and when it loaded back up a program called 'Security Tool' had made a new home in my computer. Tried to remove it from control panel but it is not visible in the list. Wondering if anyone could help me to remove it and also check for any other nasty little programs i may have that are hiding. Currently using Windows XP, Firefox as default on a Dell Dimension E520 Desktop. Norton 360, Spyware Doctor and Spypot S & D also. I am new to WTT so please take it easy! Thanks in advance.

Hi there, thanks so much for your help and your speedy response.

Unfortunately i could not get a Malwarebytes' log because the virus or whatever it is that is infecting my computer, shuts the system down randomly after seeing a blue error screen. Therefore not allowing the scan to finish.

I keep getting lots of 'Security Tool' pop ups, warning me about infections etc, it has also changed my desktop background to blue and the icons are no longer visible. Also on start up after loggin in, 'Security Tool' automatically opens and performs a 'scan'.

Anyway I did everything you said, apart from obtaining a Malwarebytes' log.

Here is the HJT log;

Sorry about my delayed response, had quite a busy few days.

Managed to run a full Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware scan in safe mode, and the log is below. Just like to add that on start up 'Security Tool' does not automatically open and I also cannot see it's icon in the quick launch bar or desktop.

I don't want to jump the gun but i hope this is good news!!
Look forward to hearing from you, best regards.

PC seems to be running fine, and all signs of malware or any type of virus have gone. Start up is back to normal, efficient speed. I am able to see my desktop icons and no longer get a blue error screen after around 20-30mins of activity. Spyware Tool does not automatically open on start up either.

Look forward to hearing from you, and thanks so much for your help so far.

Hi
Sorry aboput getting back so late but was tied up all day.
Yes youi log looks clean but I woul like you to try one more thing to be sure'

Using Internet Explorer, please do a Kaspersky online scan] This scan takes about 60 minutes to complete.

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Locate the Scan Settings button & configure as follows:
Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
Extended
Scan Options:
Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases
Click OK & have it scan My Computer
Once the scan is complete, it will provide a report if your system is infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.

Posted Image

Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop and post it in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log

* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
