Hi,
My dvd burner developed a fault, so I replaced it - only problem there was that I couldn't remove the "old" one from the casing. So I used a "slot" below. No problem everything worked fine.
That was yesterday.
Booted up the PC when I arrived home and dark screen with the following text:-
Drive 1 not found
SATA, SATA-2
Drive 2 not found
Parallel ATA, PATA-0 (Pri IDE Master)
Press F1 to continue, F2 for set up.
Now I have to press F1 to go.
I'm on a Dell Dimension 5150.
I have no doubt the problem relates to the new burner and the BIOS settings.
Any good kind soul out there know how to resolve this problem?
Thanks in advance.
Did you checked the setting of the jumpers on your new DVD? Maybe it is seleceted on slave but it should be master or it is slave but it should be master… This is the first thing that came to my mind, but you probably checked this…
But you never know with DELL. I have GX280 and if I have ATA drive and DVD on the same cable I got nothing… I have to put the drive with other cable, so I had to buy an adapter to change ATA to SATA… and guess what… My comupter can't see the drive that is plugged in via SATA adapter… In Bios everything is fine, all drivers are turn on… maybe someone can help me with this??
Hi Doug, haven't been online recently, sorry for not responding sooner.
Re. your question, yes, the PC boots up and runs as expected.
As it is, it was as I originally thought, a BIOS problem - I opened up in set-up and re-set to Factory Settings.
Then in Safe Mode returned to the previous System Restore.
This unfortunately raised another problem, "Floppy diskette seek failure".
Obviously when I re-set to Factory Settings the Floppy drive appeared - I don't have a Floppy drive.
I removed this in F2 and hey presto … having audio problems now , but we'll get there eventually!
Thanks for the input from yourself and if your reading this przemas, thank you too.
Thanks Declan, for keeping us posted with your progress.
As you will probably discover for yourself, your BIOS "probably" has an item labeled: "Onboard Audio" which should be set to "Auto" in most cases.
If "auto" does not emable sound for you, you may also need to reinstall your Chipset Drivers and an audio Driver, which should be available from the website of the machine's manufacturer.
