I'm presuming that you are not fully aware of what either of your two friends performed in their attempts to assist.
However, since you experienced "no sound" and error reports about missing hardware, it is possible that some important Device Drivers have been removed.
Have a look in your Device Manager and please report back if you notice yellow, or red warnings, or black exclamation point character next to some of your devices. (and please list which ones) (you may also notice the presence of "Unknown Device" in Device Manager.
To get to Device Manager:
Right-click on My Computer - Select - Hardware(tab) - Press - Device Manager(button)

The Stop: Error messages that you are receiving also relate to missing or corrupted Drivers, but can also be caused by new installation of software and hardware that is incompatible with your machine, or which do not have the correct drivers associated with them.
Have you made any changes to your machine just prior to the beginning of the problem?
New Software ?
New Hardware ?
Particularly have you added security software like a new Anti-virus or anti-spyware?
Particularly have you added application software for graphic, video or sound?

It could help very much to get an overview of your machine's current configuration and functioning.

In the User Login - Click on "

It is safe and does not compromise your privacy.
Follow the on-screen prompts to install the ActiveX and to allow the Full Tests to be run on your machine.
The Full Tests take about 2 1/2 - 3 minutes on most machines.
When complete, a Results -
Summary - Recommended Fixes will be displayed.
Please post the URL internet address from your Results, back here into this Topic Thread so that we can review the configuration and present performance levels of your machine.
Note: During the graphics 2D and graphics 3D testing, your screen will display some rapidly moving objects.
If you are sensitive to visual flashing, it may cause dizziness. Therefore, look away from the screen during that portion of the testing.
After reviewing the results we will be more informed and may be able to provide better recommendations for you to work towards improving your machine's performance.
Best Regards
