More than 2 companies insist that I have 2 memory slots. When removing the memory cover I have only one memory slot. Do I have to remove the top cover to get at the second memory slot?

Hi and welcome to the WTT forums.
Your machine is equipped with one permanently fitted memory board of 256MB and in addition you have a "spare" memory slot that can take an additional memory board up to 1GB
The maximum RAM therefore that the makers recommend you fit totals 1.25GB
Any additional memory can only be fitted into the slot that you have already found….

The simple answer to your question is
No, its permanently fitted, and not intended to be altered…….having said that…many things are possible with ingenuity, sound engineering, a good knowledge of electronics, and a well equipped workshop.
To sum up its not recommended you even try….unless you have all of the above….
