pcpeeod,

I'd like to run a quick scan for a specific rootkit that has been very prevelant lately.

Please download MBR.exe

Then please click on Start and then select Run.
In the run box.. put…"%userprofile%\desktop\mbr.exe" -t.

A file will appear on your desktop called MBR.log. Double click it to open it in notepad.
Please copy/paste that information back in this thread.
pcpeeod,

That looks good.

I suggest that you post in the windows forum and seek help form the Tech Team. When you post there, please provide a link to this thread so that they can see what you have posted here.

Because… Malware wise… Log looks good :D

Time for some housekeeping
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /Uninstall in the runbox and click OK
  • Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
The above procedure will:
  • Implement some cleanup procedures.
  • Reset System Restore.

Please re-enable any security that was disabled.

Cleanup

  • Double click on OTM to run it.
  • Click on CleanUp!
  • When done, you will be prompted to restart your computer. Please restart your computer.

The following is my standard advice for the future. Use what you can and pat yourself on the back for what you're already doing.

Please take time to read Preventing Malware - Tools and Practices for Safe Computing. Very important information for your consideration is contained therein.

I would also suggest you read this:

Please respond back that you understand the above and let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise, this thread will be closed Resolved.
OK. Thanks for all your help. It is greatly appreciated. I was wondering if you knew of any threads on this site that might give recommendations as to AV, malware, spyware scanners, suites that are the most effective? I looked on some of the other discussion boards in this site but was unable to locate any posts regarding recommendations. Thanks again.
