hello everyone,
im having some kind of trouble time with my recently built custom pc, hope you guys will be able to help me out, thanks in advance.
now, the problem in short is: the monitor is not getting any signal, so i have not even seen the bios PAST. other signs like fans spinning, leds coming up, etc seem to be ok.
details of the system:
DFI 975X/G mobo - condition: taken out from a working pc (not by me)
BIOS: Phoenix Award 6.00PG
Corsair TX650W PSU - cond: brand new, i opened the box myself
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66 MHz processor -cond: taken out from working pc (not by me)
HDD Samsung 80GB S-ATA - cond: found, never tested (tried other HDD as well)
Memory 2GB Samsung DDR2 667 PC5400 in four 512MB modules - cond: brand new, i opened the boxes myself
Video card ATI Radeon X1950XTX cond: gift (used), test not reported (tried different card as well)
Monitor Mitsubishi Diamond Plus100E (old 21 inch CRT) cond:old but working (tested on other pc)
things that i have already tried:
1. checked all the connections first: cables, sockets, connectors, pins, leds, wall sockets, case cables, psu cables, mobo sockets, etc. as far as i can see everything is seated well and connected well (starting with the processor, through all the PSU cables, ending with the PCI-E video card)
2. have reset the CMOS: i changed the jumper to reset, then took the battery out for a good 10 minutes, then put it back, and after another 10 minutes i put the jumper back to where it was (right place, checked with manual)
3. started to try to rule out the parts one by one:
-monitor: works on other systems, ticked
-PSU, memory brand new, ticked
-video card - tried another one, an old PCI, no change
-hard drive - tried another one, an IDE, no change
-would have tried onboard graphics, but the mobo doesnt have one
4. checked all the signs that could indicate something:
- when pushing power button: keyboard leds flash once (seems to be normal), mouse infra comes up, stays on (normal), all fans start spinning, including the one on the PCI-E video card, HDD gives some kind of silent noise and stays silent (seems to be normal, since no windows installed, at least not on this mobo), a red led is indicating that there is power in PCI slots.
5. checked BIOS beep codes:
- there is one tiny speaker on the mobo and there is another one looking exactly the same in the case. the one on the motherboard doesnt make any noise during starting up, the one in the case gives one long beep, which according to my knowledge means that everything is OK. now, i cant see any other cables that would connect this speaker with the motherboard than the one that supplies the power, so i think its just not getting error report from the motherboard, so its assuming everything is right (unless its connected somehow im not aware of)
so this is what im facing at the moment, my friends. nothing is happening with the monitor, they are just completely ignoring each other with the computer.
please help,
thanks a lot,
steve
