Picture Removal Tool

I am not offering a tool to remove pictures or photographs but previously I had XCleaner/XBlock the program which is no longer available. This program had a feature that highlighted all pictures on the computer and enabled them to be removed manually. A variety of pictures were revealed and even pornographic ones which seemed to get on the system somehow. The goodlady would never accept that they got on to the PC without my knowledge! It amazed me the number of pictures that accumulated. Does anyone know of a program (freeware if possible) that could do the same task of revealing and enabling the removal of unwanted pictures; anyone?

Duparc,
I'm not a big fan of automated utilities, especially for finding and deleting files.
Example: There used to be a utility named something like DupeDoc, which allowed the user to discover various files that were duplicated throughout the machine. The theory at the time, was that machines are "cluttered" with unnecessary duplications that can be removed to free up Disk Space.
OK, maybe so. But "most" of the duplicate files exist because either the operating system or applications intentionally create them to facilitate the proper function of the machine, and application usage.
Your situation is different, but similar.
Windows and various applications have thousands of images used to populate the Graphical User Interface panels that you rely upon each time you use your machine.
If you delete those images, you may impair your ability to utilize various machine functions and application functions.
As to deleting downloaded image files…
Most of those will go into IE Temporary Internet Files or Firefox or whatever browser you use:
For the bulk of such files, using a disk cleaner, such as the MS native Disk Cleaner, or Ccleaner, or ATF-Cleaner will clear those out.
If you are a limewire user or other P2P user, those utilities usually have their own save and incomplete folders.
We don't provide assistance with P2P, except to recommend "uninstall" since P2P is such an awful vector for malware.

So since I don't recommend automated tools for the job…. what's to be done?
C:\Windows\explorer
Use the Search function
*.jpg
*.bmp <– some bmp files are the native Desktop background
*.gif <– most applications and windows itself, use a lot of .gif files for icons and buttons
*.png <– are most often MS native files but some could be junk
*.wmf
and others
Search with each file format separately.
view and research each image file individually to assure that you are not removing something that you will later regret.
Best Regards

Thanks Doug for the advice which I will follow. When I discovered the high and increasing number of pictures that were hidden on the system it seemed that they were using too much unnecessary space and, yes, at times I did experience subsequent problems after removal which I failed to recognise were or could be associated. It was the same too with duplicate files. Now, I understand that little bit more!
