Computer has been acting up lately - shutting down or freezing up. thought it might be caused by my son putting on Team Fortress 2 game and our system not being able to handle it. I've deleted the game and it still will randomly shut down. The Microsoft error reporting tells me that I should update drivers for my display. but I've followed their guides to doing this and it still shuts down. Would really like getting this back to running smoothly. Computer is a HP M470n with Windows XP Display adapters: RADEON 9200 & RADON 9200 - Secondary Monitor: SyncMaster 920NW / 92OLM What should I do? and/or what other info can be helpful for you? Thanks in advance
Okay went through the wizard and I don't have any restore points from before the problem started. My restore points only go back to last weekend. Any other thoughts? Thanks
If the inside of the computer is dirty (accumulated dust, pet dander, etc) that can cause hangs and shut downs. Power off then unplug the power cord. Open the computer and look inside. Check all fans for dust buildup. Check the CPU heat sink as well. Invest in a can of compressed air ($5) and blow it out thoroughly. See if that helps.
