Scenario: Two laptops, same model: - Dell E1705s (Intel C2Ds….. both of them are fairly new) Two bootable DVDs with UBCD4WIN/BART PE on them + a bunch of other bootable DVDs and CDs (windows, etc) **** - Laptop A will not boot either of the UBCD4WIN DVDs, despite multiple tries. It will attempt to read the DVD, until the amount of time that it goes to the next item on the list (A FUBARed installation of Win XP) - Laptop A boots other DVDs or CDs just fine, such as a Win Vista DVD. - Both UBCD4WIN DVDs boot on other computers just fine, including Laptop B, which is the same model, and same DVD drive. - Have cleaned both DVDs thoroughly and tried again in Laptop A. No significant scratches. One of them is like-new. - Have used cleaning CD on Laptop A's drive. - Bios settings double checked. - Any potential heating issues (none) taken into consideration *** I've gone through all the checklist points that I am aware of. Thanks in advance for any replies.
Hi this does happen…… The burning/reading parameters of some DVD drives can just be a tad off the normal…… It's best to try and burn a new copy of your bootable DVD and see if Laptop A will now boot from it……. Regards paws

I tried this, and burned on a different DVD drive than I normally use. It looked like it wasn't going to work, but it was able to read it after an annoyingly long wait.

Thanks
