Hi i hope im posting this in the right forum, windows update wont update microsoft.net framework 3.5 sp1 onto my windows vista laptop, ive tried a few different ways to get it to work and download but nothing happens and it wont download it just gets half way and crashes and says couldnt update one important update…, ive tried downloading the system readiness tool, i also tried this what i found on one forum, 1. Open Administrative Tools by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, and then clicking Administrative Tools. 2. Double-click Services. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. 3. Right-click the Windows Update service, and then click Stop. 4. Click start, then click all programs, then click accessories, then right click command prompt and choose to run as administrator. Type: net stop wuauserv then press enter regsvr32 wuapi.dll then press enter regsvr32 wuaueng.dll then press enter regsvr32 wucltux.dll then press enter regsvr32 wudriver.dll then press enter And this one came up with an error. regsvr32 wups2.dll then press enter regsvr32 wups.dll then press enter regsvr32 wuwebv.dll then press enter net start wuauserv then press enter exit then press enter Restart the system and see if it can update now. That didnt work either and i tried downloading something called BITS, but that didnt download either… said it didnt need to download it everything was working fine… I realised i needed to update the service pack when i tried opening a movie making program i just bought… Any help would be much appreciated, Thankyou, Jack
Greetings Jack, Sorry to hear about your troubles getting the NET Framework SP 1 to download. First thing I would do would be to take a look in Programs and Features in your Control panel and see what you have for Net Framework already. Note what versions you have already installed. This might be a good starting point. Perhaps you cant update what you have installed? May need to install 3.5 standard first? If it is about a applications compatibility, does the application provider have any insight or known issues related to Net Framework? You may have to unistall the faulty application, do the net Framework installs and update before putting the app back on. I would also help if you can determine if it is the downloading the service pack that the problem or is it the installation of the service pack that fails. If it is just a download issue, you can download the Net Framework installation files directly to your desktop and install from there. If it is a installation issue, troubleshooting can move on from that angle. A interesting read——>http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100 Good luck and regards Kaz
Hi jacksparrow,

I just went through a hassle with .net framework on an older HP laptop nx9010, XP Home, with ATI onboard graphics Radeon IGP 345M.
The Radeon driver requires .net Framework 2.0 prior to installation.
So I figured I'd just install .net Framework 2.0, believing that it would be inclusive of 1.1.

Apparently not so.
It appears that the update packs are reverse inclusive, but that maybe the basic 1.1, 2.0, and 3.5 need to be manually installed.

I seem to recall that .net framework 3.5 is included in the MS Vista installation, so the above may not apply to you.
Also, since you have a "Vista Ready" machine, none of my experience may apply to you.

Still it might serve you well to install 1.1, 2.0, and 3.5 manually, then allow MS Updates to install the 3.5 service pack.

Note: it is also the case that it was necessary to have JAVA JRE installed before the .net framework versions would install.

I'm not writing from knowledge base on the above, rather from experience.
Your mileage may vary.

Best Regards
