Need assistance with troubleshooting this annoying warning message.
It seems to appear after using 'Temp File Cleaner' by OldTimer, Ccleaner by Piriform and ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
I have no doubt that a file or files are being deleted, I just can't work out why they aren't staying on my machine if they are required.
The machine requires that I leave my Dell Resource CD in the drive, so when this message appears I click OK and everything appears to be fine.

Many thanks in advance. :)

It sounds like it places a file or files in a temp area as that is all TFC cleans up. There must be something starting at boot time that is requesting this. Take a look with msconfig, or HijackThis (Misc Tools /Generate Startup list (check the two boxes there first)).
This 1st quote is the last logged event before shutting down last night. I find this to be somewhat disturbing, though let's just stay with the initial fault for now, I can see how they can be in relation to each other. (I don't wish to over complicate things)

Event Category: None
Event ID: 1517
Date: 31/08/2009

Description:
Windows saved user LEO\Owner registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Here is the warning from this mornings log on. You will see that it displays the temp file that keeps being deleted.

Here is an identical problem on an identical machine. (Starting from post #11)

What say the?
I believe you can clear up the first one (the one you don't want to work on right now  ) by installing Microsoft's User Profile Hive Cleanup tool.

As for the other, what do you see in your startup items?

Is there an install.exe or setup.exe on the CD? Is there a autorun.inf, and if so, what does it point to?

The machine requires that I leave my Dell Resource CD in the drive, so when this message appears I click OK and everything appears to be fine.

OK… I'll be the one to ask.
Why?

Aside from being bloated, out of date, and relatively useless as a feature, uninstalling Dell Help & Support HTML help installation and Update pakage is one of the first things I'd do upon taking ownership.

HijackThis (Misc Tools /Generate Startup list (check the two boxes there first)).

Is there an install.exe or setup.exe on the CD?

The CD has 2 .exe files in its root directory, autoRcd.exe & rcdmenu.exe. The autorun.inf points to autoRcd.exe.
When running autoRcd.exe it enables me to check and download drivers, run Dell Diagnostics etc..

While researching this problem I found another similar thread here that gets relevant from post #10, this thread at post #14 points to here, a few things feel real close to home when reading through these threads.

uninstalling Dell Help & Support HTML help installation and Update pakage is one of the first things I'd do upon taking ownership.

Upon posting I realized that you(Doug) had just previously posted an important, though interesting comment.
Now find myself researching HTML help prior to the uninstalling of Dell Help, though the solving of the issue is still in order, as the cause may be elsewhere.
Considering~

  • sfc /scannow
  • Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

Thanks, :notworthy:
Jkc73

Though glib in my presentation, I am sincere in my question: Why?

I do not see the purpose of being "required" to have a CD media in a machine's optical drive.
Nor do I see the need/purpose of constantly having manufacturer's Help and Support installed and running.

Maybe I'm more of a goat than I've already admitted to.
I find Dell's online help and Forum and posted resources to be great help.
I've never found good use for Dell's resource CD. And installed html help and support not much use at all.

But I need to remain open to learning, therefore I asked.

I do not see the purpose of being "required" to have a CD media in a machine's optical drive.

Is only "required" whilst this error is occurring.

uninstalling Dell Help & Support HTML help installation and Update pakage is one of the first things I'd do upon taking ownership.

Completely misunderstood this to read, "uninstalling 'Dell Help & Support', 'HTML help' installation and Update pakage is one of the first things I'd do upon taking ownership."
Installed Microsoft's User Profile Hive Cleanup tool.

Removed from add/remove programs Dell Resource CD, no more requests for Dell Resource CD.

Is McAfee Site Advisor working correctly on your machine when browsing? Do you wish to use McAfee Site Advisor? Do you wish to be rid of McAfee Site Advisor? I actually do not recognize what the problem is, or even if there is a problem. Seems to me that Ztruker's instructions (and your own good research) have already fixt your machine. p.s. I use WOT (Web of Trust) rather than McAfee Site Advisor, but have no strong opinion one way or another. If you want McAfee Site Advisor, and it's not working… the ole uninstall McAfee Site Advisor via Add/Remove and reinstall McAfee Site Advisor, would seem to be sensible.

Do you wish to use McAfee Site Advisor? After investigating WOT(Web of Trust), I feel it has just a few more benefits that suite my needs.
Do you wish to be rid of McAfee Site Advisor?Removed via add/remove programs.

I have installed WOT and my system is not showing any errors in the 'Event Viewer'.

I actually do not recognize what the problem is, or even if there is a problem.

This problem has been resolved.
Thanks for the contributions.
