I have a 160gb trekstor external hard drive, and it was accidently disconnected whilst switched on and plugged in to my laptop ( Dell & windows XP).
It's normally plug and play, but since it happened, when i plug it in and switch it on, the hard drive runs as normal, but nothing comes up on my laptop to say that it's there.
The icon in my computer isn't there and it doesn't register in the safely remove drives place, so i can't access anything on the drive.
I've tried changing USB cables, and ports to no avail. It's the only USB thing plugged in, and it has it's own power supply.
Does anyone know how I can get my laptop or any other computer to register that it's there, so i can get my files off?
Thanks for your time

From the above, can we presume that you've actually tried attaching the Trektor External HD to another machine?
If not, then the damage is probably to the circuitry of the enclosure, and hopefully not to the HD itself.
External Enclosures can be opened, and you can attempt to install the HD directly into a known-good DeskTop to copy/paste the files you wish to save.
Are you able to recognize/run "other" USB peripherals… like a memory stick, or usb camera, or usb mouse, etc. from those USB ports on your Laptop.
If not, the problem is more likely your Laptop USB ports and… you may benefit from Uninstalling your USB ports via Device Manager, and then reboot to allow Windows to find new hardware and reinstall the USB ports.
Keep us posted with your progress.
