Aloha it seems I'm still having issues. Very strange my Windows Task Manager (Performance) shows the "Physical Memory Usage" going from 20% to 100% and back down. As the graph comes back down, it makes a "chair" like graph. It repeats this pattern over and over. When it reaches 100% the computer does not respond. I closed all applications and it still seems to happen even after a fresh boot. I am clean of malware. http://forums.whatthetech.com/Hijacked_t10…=30#entry577331

I tried running TrendMicro, windows Defender, Tuneup Utilities 2008 (fixing registry errors) and ATF Cleaner.

Hi,
Sorry to hear of the problems with your machine.
As you know it was heavily infected and with some nasty infections……..
Its good news that its been cleaned of malware, but the fact that you are still having problems with it indicates that the infections may well have damaged some important or critical files.

I took a brief look at some of your logs in the malware removal forum and see that you had installed on the machine P2P filesharing Utorrent etc and that CatByte had recommended that these be removed as they are a common vector for the distribution of malicious elements. You mentioned in your reply to CatByte that you had removed utorrent but I would like to check if you have removed all P2P file sharing applications?……Limewire etc.?..Please advise.

Its as well to be prepared so please do the following so that your position is protected as far as possible.

Take the opportunity now to bring your back up/archive/copy of all your important stuff 100% up to date, check that it's accurate, reproducible and held securely on removable media (not your hard drive)…… the idea here is to ensure that all your important data, files, spreadsheets, work, music, emails, log in details, user names, address book, drivers, letters, invoices, videos etc….in fact everything that is important to you (stuff that you would not like to permanently lose) is kept safe on external media.

Whilst you are doing this collect together all your application installation discs (or downloaded installation executables) serial numbers, product licence keys (including the one for Windows itself and the Microsoft Windows installation disc and or Manufacturer's Restore and Driver /utilities discs.

If you have made a disc image then keep this safe also on removable media and ensure you have made a bootable CD/DVD for use in the event that Windows will not start.
