Remove Spyware Terminator with Avira 2009 free, Outpost FW? It seem verbose and not all features needed with Avira.
Hi Avie

Not sure what you mean….

Are you saying that you have Spyware Terminator installed with the ClamAV, and if it would be better
to install Avira and Outpost Fw instead? If that is the question, I can only answer yes.

I would never recommend ClamAV as AntiVirus protection, nor the Spyware Terminator for Anti-Spyware.
They are both, in my view, non-adequate. What do you use for Fw at the moment? Windows own?

Consider installing ThreatFire along with Avira and Outpost Fw, so you have a good all-round protection.
ThreatFire can be found in my signature (Preventing malware etc.) I would also advice, if you do decide to
install OutPost Fw, do it as the last item, as things will go smoother that way.

I will remove Spyware Terminator. (I had disabled the Clam AV and HIPS. I am only using the Avira Free and it may be limited below your wishes. I had used Threat fire an switched to Online Armor. it would not set upon my computer correctly so I installed Outpost. I am very happy wiht OP. The Mantouse rating was so low on Threatfire that I removed it. Sorry. So I had Wfirewal loff and Outpost On. With appreciation!!.
So you are using OA and OP simultaneously? They are both Fw's, and only one should installed.

Regarding Mantousec's tests, you should always be wary of such tests. Not because they are inaccurate per
see, but because they are testing so many different aplications and some have their own role among those.
ThreatFire is not a first-line defense, altho it is tested as one. It is a behaviour blocker, not firewall and thus
should only warn if something slips through your AV and Fw. testing it alongside HIPS programs, don't do the
program justice. Another thing to be wary off, is that in the past security vendors could buy better results for their
product. I don't know if that policy is still in place, but I would always second-guess a firm which have had
such a business-model.

cheers
Hello, Thank you for Threatfire suggestion. I did like it and will reinstall. No, I did not have both OP and OA installed at same time. I found Outpost to be the best and last. I do understand about the 'system' so thank you for the knowledge. I will uninstall Op to reinstall Theatfire and then reinstall OP. What shall I do when I uninstall Spyware Terminator. Turn off anything or disable OP and Avira. I have found they really are tempermental. And windows FW nags when no firewall is ON. Thank you.

If you already have Oupost installed, just let it be as is. Or you could install ThreatFire in safemode without network as an alternative, if possible, not sure about that.

Another thing to remember about ThreatFire is that it is operating with no signatures, and thus won't conflict with more traditional signature based programs, which is what I really like about it, along with its small footprint.

Cheers
OK on all. I needed more help with Threatfire when it was previously installed. Is there further help ie manual or forum? You really helped me on this issue. Grats. PS If iIneed to uninstall Avira before Threatfire let me know asap. I already have outpost 2009 and avira free installed. Spyware terminator is gone.
When ThreatFire first emerged, there was some advanced setup one could tinker with. It is not needed anymore, altho I believe the option to so, is still there. One place you might want to check, is messages, there are some options to opt out any messages except threats. That way, it will be one of the quiest anti-malware programs among Behaviour blockers. It will only say something if there is a threat, otherwise stay silent. One exception tho, is if there is being tinkering with kernel modes, no matter how legit the program is. You don't have to uninstall anything imo.
:pullhair: Can you believe that Avira has been running for 2 hours. (I uninstalled all and started over with Outpost on learning.) Then I could not use my browsers. Some glitch has my system hard drive running and I cannot stop the program or process for Avira using all normal methods. Will wait it out..
Hi Avie When you uninstalled, you did remember to delete remaining folders before installing again right? And did you also remember to stop the program + services for that program when you uninstalled it? These things are important whenever you uninstall security programs, as they install deep in the system. Regards

HI,

Yes I did all of the above and have removed it totally. So sorry I missed your mail until now. Using Outpost and Avira with no problems.
Cheers and thanks for helping. :wavey:
