I was looking around my PC recently and found an O22 entry for which I cannot identify the .dll.

Please review my log and, if possible, help me to identify this O22. I uninstalled Java early tonight and thus the reason for "(file missing)" with respect to the Java.

I run Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 and tried to run the kaspersky syslinux off of a Grub4DOS bootable USB recently; which didn't work due to corrupted database. Tonight, while my XP OS is running, Kaspersky 2009 flagged "Run dll as an app" tonight stating that something was trying to load a Remote Admin program which part of my Ultimate Boot Disk 4 Windows (UBCD4Win) files. This happened while opening the "Add/Remove Programs" applet from the Control Panel -> perhaps due to a windows .dll that runs when "Add/Remove Programs" queries?

The remote admin software/files are part of the directory established after running the UBCD4WinV350.exe (hxxp://www.ubcd4win.com/).

Call me paranoid, which I am, but I fear of a rootkit and want to be as sure as possible.

Thank you in advance.

Hi finiteworld, welcome to the forum.

To make cleaning this machine easier
  • Please do not uninstall/install any programs unless asked to
It is more difficult when files/programs are appearing in/disappearing from the logs.
  • Please do not run any scans other than those requested
  • Please follow all instructions in the order posted
  • All logs/reports, etc.. must be posted in Notepad. Please ensure that word wrap is unchecked. In notepad click format, uncheck word wrap if it is checked.
  • Do not attach any logs/reports, etc.. unless specifically requested to do so.
  • If you have problems with or do not understand the instructions, Please ask before continuing.
  • Please stay with this thread until given the All Clear. A absence of symptoms does not mean a clean machine.

We'll see if we can find out anything about that file
  • Make sure to use Internet Explorer for this
  • Please go to VirSCAN.org FREE on-line scan service
  • Copy and paste the following file path, into the "Suspicious files to scan" box on the top of the page:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\rcabuens.dll
  • Click on the Upload button
  • If a pop-up appears saying the file has been scanned already, please select the ReScan button.
  • Once the Scan is completed, click on the "Copy to Clipboard" button. This will copy the link of the report into the Clipboard.
  • Paste the contents of the Clipboard in your next reply.

And let's see if there is anything else

Please download DDS and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————

Please include the contents of the following in your next reply:

DDS.txt

Please attach the second file; Attach.txt. To attach a file, do the following:
  • Under the reply panel is the Attachments Panel
  • Browse for the attachment file you want to upload, then click the green Upload button
  • Once it has uploaded, click the Manage Current Attachments drop down box
  • Click on [external image: Posted Image] to insert the attachment into your post

Please post back with
  • VirScan results
  • both DDS logs

Thanks
oldman960, I really appreciate your time and willingness to help me out with this. My system was locking up today and being very troublesome. About two hours ago I utilized Acronis to slick the system partition and reloaded my backup image from a month or so ago. I'm now limping along on a different (and much older) system as I update the one that was giving me trouble. I was just running a Kaspersky full scan and the system entered standbye, even though I have the OS set to NEVER enter standbye. I dunno, think that a KillDisk wipe and full reload may be in order. For what's it's worth the virusScan.org found that the file wasn't seen as infection by any of the vendors. I hadn't ran the DDS yet. I do apologize for eating up your time with this but things are hopefully taken care of for now. Thank you for this service.
