I'm getting the message again of "msnmsgr.exe corrupt file" again. I posted on this previously, here's the link:
http://forums.whatthetech.com/msnmsgr_exe_…le_t103231.html The message just popped up again for the first time today. This time, I'm getting the message

" The file or system C:\System Volume Information\_restore{83342493-B4AB-4381-BFC8-DAC980087D81}\RP190\change.log is corrupt and unreadable. Please run chkdsk utility"

Can I delete messenger without affecting my hotmail, and then reload it? If not, what do I do? Thanks!
Hi sinnead. That's in the System Restore area. The easiest way to get rid of it is to turn off System Restore, which will delete all existing restore points. Once that completes, turn it on again. A new restore point will be created and you should be good to go. Open Control Panel Open System Click on the System Restore tab. Place a check in Turn off System Restore on all drives then click the Apply button. Click yes when you get the "are you sure" prompt. That will delete all existing restore points. Once that completes, remove the check and click Apply again. That will create a new restore point.
Thanks, Ztruker! It seems to have worked! I'm not getting the pop up about a corrupt file anymore. I ran chkdsk twice, just to be sure  . So, if anything like this happens, where it says I have a corrupt file, the chkdsk /r should work?
It will "usually" work, but not always. It depends on what the problem actually is, but if the error says to run chkdsk, then it's quite likely it will fix it.

Now that you have that done, go back and delete all the System Restore points again and create a new one, or delete all but the most recent. See hre:

Scroll down to Remove System Restore points. It covers both methods.
Thanks for that! I'm due to renew, so I don't think I'll bother! I'll download the other, and follow the instructions indicated.
You should also take a look at CCLeaner and/or ATF Cleaner and use one or the other to delete all the junk files that accumulate on your hard drive, due to browsing the interenet, updating installed software, etc.

If you chose CCleaner, look through the options and uncheck the things you don't want removed, like browser history, passwords, memory dumps, etc. Then run Analyze the first time to see what it finds and will delete. Look through the list and see if there is anything there you don't want deleted.
