IE 8 error urlmon.dll

Run Windows XP - installed IE8 few weeks ago now I have problem opening up sites that worked before - get an error message and window needs to close - urlmon.dll Please help - Started using McAfee free through Comcast around the same time - don't know if it is connected - do not have system restore points since then except for the current day. Greetings,

As a first try:

Exit IE then:

Go to start > Run...

& type:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

& Enter.

No I can not open some sites that worked before Internet needs to close when I click for details it is always an error with urlmon.dll

Try run IE without addons, just for ruling it out.

Goto start, run, type: IExplore -extoff (Space between e and - )

Still happens?

Try: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset...

Open Notepad then

Copy the Text below into the blank document then

Save the file as IEfix2.cmd (save as type "all files").

Save to your Desktop then Run the IEfix2.cmd file. Double click it.

Restart your machine.

Two did not succeed Mshtml.dll was loaded but the DllRegister Server entry point was not found. This file can not be registered. LoadingLibrary("Msjava.dll") failed. By the way thanks for your help!

If the behavior has remained the same I would suggest two experiments.

1) Very briefly turn off McAfee and see if you can access a problematic site.

You should be able to disable McAfee by right clicking the icon in the system tray next to the clock (lower right).

If that makes a difference then turn McAfee back on and let us know.

2) Uninstall IE8 and see if the issue persists in the fall back to IE7.

On a side note you could also test another browser such as Google Chrome or Firefox etc.

Turning off McAfee did not help - Will change back to IE7

Going back to IE 7 seems to work - THANKS!! What about the errors from the scan - Any other suggestions? Why did IE 8 disrupt my system? I'll check back tomorrow... Regards, Fiveone5
