[Resolved] help with my laptop

my laptop is a dell inspiron and its really slow and missing files and someone went in and deleted files and added cyber defender and its all messed up. since then it seems to delete files by itself when i try to open them. the computer will also shut down and reboot itself without warning. i try to play a game like hoyle card games and then after 5 minutes it shuts off and reboots.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2

The basic requirement for secure surfing is a third-party firewall and a resident anti-virus scanner and your PC has neither. Given the issues that you have I suggest that you back-up any important files and then Factory Restore it. I assume that it has a recovery partition, so it's not a difficult task to manage, and we can walk you through the process if you wish. We can also provide you with links to free security software to keep your PC clean in future if you like.

ok so how do i do all that? i can do a system restore but it wont go back that far. so please help me to do all that i need to do. i did forget to mention that my laptop wasnt originally mine. it was given to me by my sister, which was given to her. my laptop has been passed down. i dont know if this matters or not but i looked under my laptop and it says on a sticker that its a windows xp home edition. and the dell and xp is a 2001.

OK, take a quick trip here, start a new thread and explain the situation - add a link to this thread too. A nice person over there whose area of expertise this is will guide you through the steps and clarify any problems you have before you start - if in doubt, ask before you do as it saves tears at bedtime.
