When you say no display, do you mean nothing ever shows on the screen, not even when you first boot the computer? You should at least see the computer manufacturers logo when the computer starts.
If not, then it sounds like the display may have gone bad and it's an unfortunate coincidence that you were installing SP3 at the same time.
If you do get the vendor logo but lose the display when XP boots, then try the following:
Boot the computer
Start pressing F8 every second or so once you see the vendor logo displayed
This should bring up the Windows Advanced Options menu
Select Enable VGA Mode.
This option starts Windows in 640 x 480 mode by using the current video driver (not Vga.sys).
See if that gets you a display again. If yes, then install the latest driver for your video card/chipset from the manufacturers web site. If you need help with this, post the make and model of the computer and I'll see what I can find.
If that doesn't help, boot to the Windows Advanced Options menu again, select Safe Mode, login as Administrator. Open Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel and uninstall SP3.
there is no display at all when i start up. not even the logo. it's not sending the info to the monitor. i checked the monitor to make sure that wasn't the problems.
i tried hitting f8, but didn't work because of the display.
thanks for the suggestion.
Hi Angi
It may sound like Ztruker pointed out, a screen gone bad.
But is this a laptop or desktop? If desktop, do you have means
to test the monitor on a friends or family members PC?
If it works on another PC, it may be the graphic card instead of
the monitor.
Also, if desktop, make sure that all cables are fastened in position.
Not tight, but firm. Also examine the plugs for bend / broken pins.
