[Resolved] Remaining issues after Helper.sig file found

Hi there,

This is my first time posting on this forum and I am hoping that you can help me. Earlier this week, I started up my pc and a folder opened up on my desktop containing 2 files, helper.sig and helper.dll. I ran Malwarebytes and it deleted 7 infections. I no longer get the folder popping up, however other suspicious activity continues. My IE was VERY slow and I was getting all sorts of unusual pop-ups and redirects. I enabled a higher setting on my firewall and real time internet protection and something is constantly trying to run processes. I have also ran CCleaner, my AVG anti-virus and spyware terminator, nothing is showing up but I know there is a little bugger in there somewhere. Can you please help?

  • Now click the Install button.

Hi Tomk,

Thanks for getting back to me. OK I ran the HijackThis system scan only, both entries were present, checked and fixed. I ran the ESET Scanner as well. As far as how my pc is performing, well I basically have it shut down from the world at the moment and have to manually allow each item to go out. I will reset my firewall, antivirus and spyware removal tool settings to see if strange activity is resuming and will post further should I find anything.

Backup Your Registry with ERUNT
  • Download ERUNT from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click erunt.zip, choose Extract All… and follow the prompts to unzip the program
  • Open the erunt folder on your Desktop and double-click ERUNT.exe to start the program
  • OK all the prompts to back up your registry to the default location.
Note:
The backups can be restored from here:
C:\windows\ERDNT\\ERDNT.exe

Please open Notepad

  • Click Start , then Run
  • Type notepad.exe in the Run Box.
    Copy and Paste everything from the Quote box into Notepad:

    REGEDIT4

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{a77f0b88-ef13-475d-8387-918333d38453}]

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PROTOCOLS\Filter\text/html]


    Make sure there are NO blank lines before REGEDIT4
    Make sure there IS one blank line at the end of the file.

    Go to File > Save As
    Save File name as Fix.reg
    Change Save as Type to All Files and save the file to your desktop.

    Close Notepad, and double-click Fix.reg on your Desktop. When it asks if you want to merge the info to the registry, hit YES/OK. Reboot the computer.

Then please give me a new HijackThis log and let me know how it's running.

That took care of it.

You need to create a new Clean restore point.
Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press OK. Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it (something you'll remember) and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

Remove all previous Restore Points
Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

cleanmgr

At top, click on More Options tab. Click Clean up… button in the System Restore box. Click on Yes button. When finished, click on Cancel button to exit.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.
