I was scanning via trend micro house call and found several suspicious programs and files in my laptop. But it was ignored by the antivirus, and wasn't cleaned. Adware and Spyware programs doesn't seem to detect it, so please help me with my problem. Thank you very much.

This was the latest log file I tested after I ran all my anti-spyware and anti-virus programs. They didn't show the seismola malware/virus, so I'd like to be sure if it really is gone.

Download HostsXpert v3.7
  • Unzip HostXpert to your desktop
  • Open up the HostXpert program.
  • Make sure that the "Make Hosts Writable?" button in the upper right corner is enabled.
  • Click Create Back Up
  • Then click on Restore Microsoft's Host Files
  • Close the HostXpert program

I just did what you instrusted, but I confused "Make Hosts Read?" for "Make Hosts Writable?", so I ended up making a back-up and restoring it in the process. My bad. But in the end I got to enable "Make Hosts Writable?", and clicked the create backup and restore Microsoft host file, it didn't respond to the clicking so I left it at that, and then started HJT and copied the log file it produced. Here is that log file. Thanks very much for your attention and guidance, and more power :D

Your Hosts files look like they got corrupted, they look fine now :thumbup:

Outside of your Java being out of date your log looks fine.
  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
  • It should have an icon next to it:
    [external image: Posted Image]
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Microsystems and install the update
  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 11 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
  • If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future


Run the free scan from Panda, if you have anything bad it will pick it up.


Run Panda's ActiveScan from here and perform a full system scan.

1. Once you are on the Panda site click the "Scan your PC" button
2. A new window will open…click the big "Check Now" button
3. Enter your Country
4. Enter your State/Province
5. Enter your e-mail address and click send
6. Select either Home User or Company
7. Click the big Scan Now button
8. If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
9. It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It will take a couple minutes)
Since you are on a slow connection it will take about 15 minuites for the scanner to load.
10. Click on "Local Disks" to start the scan
11. Once scan is done, click "see report" then "save report"
Save the log someplace.
12. reboot
13. Post Panda scan results in your next reply

I did as you instructed, and was able to download the latest javascripts and scan my local disks with the panda antivirus program. After the scan I immediately activated spybot and ad-aware se to clean the spyware infections (maybe get the adware in the process too). I hope I didn't do the wrong thing, for the anti-spyware/anti-adware activation was done out of my initiative, and wasn't part of your instructions :oops: . Hope I didn't make the mistake of making the job of cleaning my PC harder for us both :( . Anyways the anti-spyware/anti-adware programs detected 7 out of the 16 files suspected of being infected (as the panda scan log shows). I didn't run the Windows Defender program for I already activated it a couple of hours before, though I believe all three should be activated consecutively after the other one finishes.

I rebooted my computer after that and got HJT to scan my computer and make a log file. Here are both the panda scan log file and HJT log file. Sorry if I'm a little wordy, hope you get important facts from what I've related, and again thanks for the time and patience :D .

You did just fine :thumbup:

Look in your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel for a program called dollarrevenue it most likely is not there but lets check anyway. If it is present you should uninstall it. If it is present and won't let you uninstall it let me know.

Then do this….

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing :
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Once your system is clean, we suggest that you reverse this to keep critical windows files from accidently being deleted.


Look for this file and delete it.

C:\WINDOWS\keyboard231.dat <– Just this file

Outside of this, all Panda found where cookies. :thumbup:



Run this system cleaner, its free and yours to keep

If you don't want the Yahoo Toolbar, be sure to uncheck it during installation
Download and Install CCleaner
* Click on Run Cleaner
* Run the Issues Scan < – After it scans your system, when you click on the Fix button and it asks you to backup the Registry..Say Yes

I did what you instructed and all is well :) . The problem is my brother installed this utorrent program, and he's trying to download a book from it. Is this utorrent program secure? I hate to end up having all sorts of unwanted critters in our laptop, due to the files downloaded from this program. Please give suggestions on the best course of action. Other than that the Laptop is not having any serious problems. Hoping to hear the security tips your going to impart, as son as possible. Thanks again and more power to TomCoyote!

utorrent is legit , but like anything you download you need to read the EULA End Users License Agreement and make sure they are not installing anything else with it.

Just so you know, AVG has discontinued there free version, if you notice that when you try to update it won't update anything. You will either have to upgrade to the paid version or shop around for a different program. I am including two free programs, just choice one , with AV more is not better. Before you install one of these or purchase one on your own, make sure you go to the Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall AVG Free.

I'm sorry, but I disagree… Unless I missed something, AVG Free is still available. The 7.1 version was discontinued, but a new 7.5 version was made available a few months ago. I'm just intrigued as to this statement.

That's great Ken! Phew… for a minute there, I got scared… lol Glad to see we're all on the same page. I have to say the AVG nags were a little confusing as to whether the free version was still available. They do try to get you to buy the Pro version. But ever since AVG 6 there have been numerous people saying the free version would be discontinued, and it hasn't. And based on what I've seen on the website, they don't plan on discontinuing it any time soon. Always good to check at the source. So, glad I could be of use! :D :wavey:
