Some of my computer's have an internet but there are 2 computer's that do not have an internet. I thought the reason was i do not have a LAN connection but i have. My question is how do i get an internet to the 2 computer's since i have an LAN connections????tnx!!
OK.
You have a dsl subscription and a dsl modem plus a router, or modem/router combination.
You have more than 2 computers which you would like to have connected to the internet.
How many total devices (computers, xbox, etc.) do you wish to connect by wire to your internet connection?
What brand and model of router are you using?
If your router has only 2 LAN connection ports, you will need an additional router or switch to add more ports for addition wire connected devices.
If your router has wireless connection capability (most do) you can connect up to 21 devices (additional computers) wirelessly.
With most routers, during the initial setup, you will have the option to create a "Network Setup Disk" which you can burn to CD or save on a USB memory stick. You can use the "Network Setup Disk" to configure the additional machines for your LAN or you can set up each machine manually.
In most instances, adding an additional computer is as simple as physically connecting it to your router via Ethernet Cable (CAT5 or CAT6)
All machines should be assigned to the same WorkGroup.
If the above does not provide the information that you need, please provide answers to the above questions:
D-Link DES 1016D is not available in the US, so I can't directly find firmware and configuration information that may be useful to you.
In what Country did you acquire that Router?
I may not be able to follow with any additional specifics in some countries due to language challenges.
If the DES 1016D is anything like the DES 1026 found here in the US, it is a mid-range device that would be used in small to medium offices or industry use and less likely to be found in home/home office settings.
Sorry if my questions seem too elementary to you. I need to establish an actual picture of what equipment you are using.
Do you have an active DSL subscription with an ISP and a Modem that feeds the WAN?
How many machines are right now successfully connected to the Internet via this DES 1016D Router?
If there are "some" existing machines presently connected how many empty LAN sockets are available.
If 2 more open sockets are available, then it is a matter of simply plugging CAT5 ethernet cable into a socket on the router and then plug into the Network Interface Card of the Computer.
These connections should be completed while the Router, DSL modem, and Computers are all powered down.
Then power up the DSL modem, waiting for it to fully boot.
Next power up the Router, waiting for it to fully boot.
And finally powering up the computers.
You may also need to use the Windows Wizard for creating a new connection on each computer -
Control Panel - Network Connections - create a new connection
this Router, like many appears to be generally plug-and-play…. unless there is a problem
with the router setup
with the router firmware
with Ethernet cabling
with the computer's Network Interface Card (NIC network adapter)
with drivers for each Computer's NIC
You may need to download and install Router Firmware from D-link
You may need to download and install NIC drivers from their respective manufacturer
