While playing certain games such as Warcraft 3, my screen will (almost instantly) freeze in game, and the pixels on the screen will juxtapose. However the same problem does not persist on other games, including Lineage 2. However; even without anything running, sometimes the same error occur. The frequency is random as far as i can tell; but the chances of it happening go up whenever i'm playing games (no matter 3d or not).
Initially i thought the problem to be malware or driver related. I've reinstalled the drivers for my nvidia 5700VE; to the latest? version 175; but the problem still persists.
I've seen the BSOD only once, since it rarely goes into BSOD but merely freezes. My monitor will go into Digital mode and show a nice blank screen. It also have errors pertaining to nv4_disp.dll.
There are also purple/blue lines sometimes in the frozen screen.
Tomk of the Malware team suspected that my graphics card might be faulty, and i've done a check on potential malwares on my pc, but it looks clean.
Also, my computer does not seem to read my DVD drive at about the same time; it doesnt even show that a DVD is attached to my PC. I have re-attached it to no avail. Does that mean that my dvd drive is dead? The DVD drive is still powered by my pc.. should i unattach it?
Don't we learn everyday? Had to look up the definition of this word.

Then choose for option 2 (or option 1 of you prefer that) and let it scan your computer to check which card you have.

Let's see if something is found in the Event Logs:
Go to Start
Click on Run
In the box, type eventvwr
Look at the System and Application log files and note any that are made at the time you have one of those crashes
We need to know the Event ID and Source.
In Device Manager we can find out if anything is wrong with your hardware.
Right-click on My Computer
Click Manage
Now click on Device Manager
Expand all the sections and check them for any exclamation marks. Make a note of it
We need to know the section where the device was found and the name of the device
John,
Thank you for your help.
On the website it displays:
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700VE 175.19 Your PC currently has the latest driver installed for your GPU. No driver update is necessary at this time.
Under device manager, no device has been highlighted with exclaimation marks.
In the event logs; no logs were made on my computer crashing. Might be that the pc doesnt actually crash but stop sending signal to my monitor. Sound also stops after awhile. Have to do manual reboot by holding onto the boot button.
I have also notice that there are events at future dates!
After February 16, 2009; all logs ceased and started on March 11, 2020.

Please run the PCPitstop Full Tests, here:
http://www.pcpitstop.com Note: Vista users with UAC must first Right-click Internet Explorer and then select Run as Administrator
Register and create a password. Then Accept the ActiveX component to allow your machine to run the Full Tests.
Registering and accepting the ActiveX are both SAFE and FREE.
Full Tests is the first item in the left hand column of that page.
The Full Tests take less than 5 minutes for most machines.
Once you have your Results, please post the TechExpress Link back here into this thread for review.
TechExpress is the last item on the list in the yellow box in upper right area of any Results page.
Post the entire URL link information back here into this topic.
Note: Vista users, please close your instance of Internet Explorer "Running as Administrator" after you are finished reviewing your results.
Caution: During the testing of Video Adapter, a variety of patterns, shapes, colors and text are "flashed" onto the users monitor screen. In the many thousands of daily uses of the PCPitstop Full Tests over several years, two individuals who suffer epilepsy experienced discomfort and temporary dizziness when viewing the flashing patterns.
If you know that you are susceptible to photo driven seizure, please look away from your screen during the Video Adapter testing sequence. Note: The PCPitstop Full Tests Results is a free service, but is supported by various paid product advertisements for utilities that "could" remedy the OP's problem.
Since WTT is a "free-help" forum, we do not recommend or endorse purchase of automated utilities, and will assist you in manually correcting any problems and settings necessary to optimize your machine's performance. Ask your questions here. We'll help you walk through any necessary steps.
Also, are you able to try this graphics card in another computer or try another grapics card in this computer?
John,
I've done the test but i dont see how i can link it here; i do not see a yellow box at the top right of the screen.
I do not have the resources to test the graphics card on another system
also, i have a rare screenshot of my how the pixels looks before it hangs http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v732/the…forethehang.jpg
this colour occurs when i'm not loading 3d graphics.
if i'm using 3d graphic sometimes the frozen screen looks like something mixed inside a blender.
PCPitstop found several problems on your computer of which one is malware. You will need to download HijackThis and post in the HijackThis Logs and Infections Removal Forum. Here is how to do that, read it carefully! http://forums.whatthetech.com/Welcome_New_…ers_t34502.html
Do not reply to your own topic as helpers look for topics with zero replies and if you are not being helped after five days, I recommend that you read and work through this to get high priority: http://forums.whatthetech.com/What_Do_If_Y…ays_t83910.html
If you are clean of malware and still have this problem please post back in this topic and we will go on troubleshooting.
Regards,
John.
