Hi,

i've been experiencing problems with my computer for a little more than a week now. Everytime i try to open an internet explorer page to surf the internet, it experiences an error and needs to close.

the only way i can access the internet, visiting websites etc, is if i send the error report and then open the microsoft internet explorer troubleshooting page from the link provided in the subsequent dialogue box. if i dont send the error report, obviously the program is terminated.

i think that the computer is infected with many different malware programs, and lately random folders have been appearing on my desktop which i suspect are created by the malware programs. here are the names of the 3 folders that have appeared so far:

1) if
2) .zipx2ph1j.gif
3) LiveWindows Mediwnaspi32.zipx2ph1j.gif

i am completely lost with respect to dealing with this problem. suspiciously though, i've noticed that everytime i experience these errors, there is a program running in taskmanager named acro32RD.exe. i'm not sure if thats simply the adobe acrobat process, or if its malware in disguise. :smack:

here's my hijackthis log:

if anyone is familiar with these problems, can you help me please? i've not got a clue how to deal with this and i'd like for my computer to get back to normal.

edit: i've just confirmed that i have 2 infections by 2 different viruses: w32.rajump and trojanadclicker - according to symantec virus scan. i've downloaded symantec's fix tool for w32.rajump and it seems to have worked. the other one still remains though.
Hi compaq_hater, welcome to the forum.

Please be advised, as I'm still in training, all my replies will have to be approved by a teacher or expert before I can post them. This may cause some delays, but I will do my best to keep them as short as possible.

To make cleaning this machine easier
  • Please do not uninstall/install any programs unless asked to
It is more difficult when files/programs are appearing in/disappearing from the logs.
  • Please do not run any scans other than those requested
  • Please follow all instructions in the order posted
  • All logs/reports, etc.. must be posted in Notepad. Please ensure that word wrap is unchecked. In notepad click format, uncheck word wrap if it is checked.
  • Do not attach any logs/reports, etc.. unless specifically requested to do so.
  • If you have problems with or do not understand the instructions, Please ask before continuing.
I will post back soon with additional instructions.

Thanks
Hi compaq_hater,

Please download DDS and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————

Please include the contents of the following in your next reply:

DDS.txt

Please attach the second file; Attach.txt. To attach a file, do the following:
  • Under the reply panel is the Attachments Panel
  • Browse for the attachment file you want to upload, then click the green Upload button
  • Once it has uploaded, click the Manage Current Attachments drop down box
  • Click on [external image: Posted Image] to insert the attachment into your post
No need for a HJT (hijackthis) log this time.

Thanks

Hi

First thing we need to do is turn on System Restore. An infected restore point is better than no restore point at all. It will not reinfect you unless you restore back to it. We will clean out the System Restore when we are done.

Please
  • Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties
  • In the System Properties dialog box, click the System Restore tab
  • Click to clear the Turn off System Restore check box. Or, click the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box
  • Click OK
After a few moments, the System Properties dialog box will close. Please wait for it to close as it is creating a restore point.

Limewire
You have Limewire, a P2P/file sharing programs installed on your computer. P2P applications like it are the largest source of malware we see. You'll be doing yourself a favor by removing it.

References for the risk of these programs can be found in these links:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/commun…protection.mspx
http://www.techweb.com/wire/160500554

I would recommend that you uninstall Limewire, however that choice is up to you. If you choose to remove these programs, you can do so via Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs.

If you wish to keep it, please do not use it until your computer is cleaned.

Ok, back to work.

I need some information on an unidentified file. We will use Virustotal Please submit these files for analysis
