Hello,

You guys did a GREAT job helping me out a few months ago – I'm hoping you can help me again.

My wife was using our computer last night, and she said that she suddenly got a big popup while online. I can't tell you what it was or what it said, because I didn't see it. But this morning, the problem I'm having is that when I launch IE, it completely locks up and I have to shut it down wth the task manager. Once, I got an error message that referred to an shwol.dll error.

Right now, I am running IE without add-ons (it kept shutting down when I tried to come here for help). Ever since my last virus a few months ago, I have been vigilant about keeping everything updated. Here is my log – again, thanks in advance for your help. You guys are the best.

Hello and welcome to Posted Image

Please be advised, as I am still in training, all my replies to you will be checked for accuracy by one of our experts to ensure that I am giving you the best possible advise.
This may cause a delay, but I will do my best to keep it as short as possible.

I am checking your HJT log now and will post back shortly with instructions.
[external image: Posted Image] Backdoor Threat
Your computer has been infected with one or more backdoor trojans.

These programs have the ability to steal passwords and other information from your system. If you use your computer for sensitive purposes such as internet banking then I recommend you take the following steps immediately:
  • Use another, uninfected computer to change all your internet passwords, especially ones with financial implications such as banks, paypal, ebay, etc. You should also change the passwords for any other site you use.
  • Call your bank(s), credit card companies or any other institution which may be affected and advise them that your login/password or credit card information may have been compromised and ask what steps to take with regard to your account.
  • Consider what other private information could possibly have been taken from your computer and take appropriate steps

This infection can almost certainly be cleaned, but as the malware could be configured to run any program a remote attacker requires, it will be impossible to be 100% sure that the machine is clean,

If this is unacceptable to you then you should consider reformatting the system partition and reinstalling Windows as this is the only 100% sure answer.

If you wish to reformat then please let me know in your next response.
