Hi VenoMinon, we are almost done, we need to do a bit program updating, after this.

Reconfigure Windows XP to show hidden files:
Double-click the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select "Show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.

Remove last few Folders from BitTorrent
Using Windows Explorer, browse for the following folders in red and delete.
c:\program files\DNA
c:\documents and settings\t\Application Data\DNA

Please run ATF cleaner on each user account before doing the online scan, this cuts down on
scan time and log size.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

Note: Internet Explorer should be used

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As….
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply.

A new HJT Log
Kaspersky scan online log
And a good description on how you system is working now
As of right now I am having absolutely no problems with the computer. It is running faster than it has since I received it 5 months ago. The only problem I have is that when going in to turn off AVG for the Kaspersky scan, I realized that I had not turned it back on from the last Combofix I did, so I haven't had an Antivirus on in 2-3 days. It isn't affecting anything right now but that may explain why Kaspersky found 6 infected files.

Also, my girlfriend would like to know if it is safe for her to check her ebay and bank accounts on this computer again. I told her to wait until I got confirmation before she started using her information again

Hi VenoMinon

Also, my girlfriend would like to know if it is safe for her to check her ebay and bank accounts on this computer again. I told her to wait until I got confirmation before she started using her information again

As well as the Rootkit we found at the start, I also found a Backdoor Trogan

http://www.greatis.com/appdata/d/a/adirss.exe.htm

Because of its backdoor functionality, many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS.
At present we only have a few item in the online log, which we are going to clean, but I cannot guarnatee 100% that everything has been cleaned out, I can not give you a yes or no answer.

These infected Files in red need to Be removed

Using Windows Explorer, browse for the following files/folders and delete as instructed

C:\Documents and Settings\t\Desktop\Chasity's Music\baby i love your way accoustic.mp3
C:\Documents and Settings\t\Desktop\Chasity's Music\christina milian ft voltio MTV.mp3
C:\Documents and Settings\t\Desktop\Music\02 Track 2 (scareface).wma
C:\Documents and Settings\t\Desktop\Music\03 Track 3 (scareface).wma

Update Adobe Reader

  • Please uninstall Adobe Reader 8.1.2 before installing the latest version by going to Start > Control Panel and double clicking on Add/Remove Programs. Locate Adobe Reader 8.1.2 and click on Change/Remove to uninstall it.
  • Click here to download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  • Select your Windows version and click on Download. If you are using Internet Explorer, you will receive prompts. Allow the installation to be ran and it will be installed automatically for you.

If you are using other browsers, it will prompt you to save a file. Save this file to your desktop and run it to install the latest version of Adobe Reader.
  • Close your Internet browser and open it again.

When you are in add/remove programs also remove Hijackthis 1.99.1

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.

Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) .
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment JRE 6 Update 11 allows end-users to run Java applications".
Click the "Download" button to the right.
Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
These
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
Java™ 6 Update 2
Java™ 6 Update 3
Java™ SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

I also like to run a 2nd online scan for a second opinion, before we clean up.

Go here to run an online scannner from ESET.
  • Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked, and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt

Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic, along with a new HijackThis log & a description of any remaining problems
I Ran the Eset scan, but I had the remove threats button checked. I looked for but did not find the eset folder in my program files, so I manually copied what the scan told me it did

a variant of win32/cimag trojan (Unable to clean - deleted)
C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\Vmuloqeviweced.dll.vir

Win32/Adware.180solutions.application (Unable to clean - deleted)
C:\Documents and Settings\t\Desktop\music\04 - Track 04 (scareface).wma

I went ahead and deleted all the 'scareface' songs on my computer since I do not listen to them anymore and they seem to keep being a problem. Other than that the computer is working like a charm. I've had no problems and it runs smoothly now.

A lot of those scareface' songs showed up in the first online scan, you are best rid of them.

Now let's clean up

Delete SDFIX and the folder C:\SDFix (You can just delete the exe file from your desktop)

UNINSTALL COMBOFIX

  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
  • Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
  • [external image: Posted Image]
You can also delete any logs we have produced, and empty your Recycle bin.

I would keep ATF cleaner, to keep your system free of useless files, also keep Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, update
it and run regular scans.

As we removed spysweeper let's add some more protection,

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

Winpatrol <= Download and install the free version of Winpatrol. a tutorial for this product is located here:
Using Winpatrol to protect your computer from malicious software

IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list
which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly.
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Read some information here how to prevent Malware.
