[Resolved] Cant remove Desktop Icons

I was having trouble downloading a game, Jewel Quest, a few days ago. I use Mozilla for a browser most of the time. I dont remember exactly what the trouble message was, but I thought I wasn't getting the game downloaded. I think the source was IWIN. Now I have five copies of a shortcut called jewel-quest-setup that wont run, I get the message that jewel-quest-setup.exe is not a valid WIN32 application. When I try to delete these I am told that some other program or person is using the file. So how can I delete these if I'm the only person using the PC? I am not on a network.

Sounds like an odd problem you've got there. Try booting into safe-mode (instructions are below if you are unsure) and deleting them from there.

Safe Mode

• Restart the computer.
• As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
• Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
• Press Enter.

Re-booted in Safe Mode - Still no good. I don't think these ICONS are causing any problems, everything seems to work OK, they're just real annoying, and its frustrating when I cant have complete dominance over my own piece of electronics…………. Looking forward to the next step Thanks

1. Go to Start->Run and type in notepad and hit OK.

2. Then copy and paste the content of the following codebox into Notepad:

3. Save the file to your DESKTOP as "list.bat". Make sure to save it with the quotes. Once saved, the icon to click should look like this on your desktop: [external image: Posted Image]

4. Double click list.bat.

5. A log should popup, please post that in your next reply. (Also found on your Desktop called list.txt).

• Please double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).

• Close OTMoveIt3

Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.
