As of a few days ago, when I'm online (IE or FIrefox) Page Load Error windows keep popping up with the URL http://url.adtrgt.com/. It happens a couple times per min. I've run AVG and it found and deleted some viruses, and it now says I have no threats. Spybot found some as well and I was able to delete all but 2 of them: virtumonde.sci and win32.tdss.rtk. I just ran VundoFix after reading some other forums and it didn't find anything. Here's my log from Hijack This. Could someone help me out?

I would be fine with restoring my pc – I have everything backed up – but it seems the partition that had the recovery program on my Acer has disappeared. I had the hard drive replaced last year so maybe I lost the recovery option when the hard drive was switched. I'd made recovery disks when I bought the machine but they're not working. Tried Alt+F10 and start up but it didn't work either.

Hi , welcome to the forum.

Please be advised, as I'm still in training, all my replies will have to be approved by a teacher or expert before I can post them. This may cause some delays, but I will do my best to keep them as short as possible.

To make cleaning this machine easier
  • Please do not uninstall/install any programs unless asked to
It is more difficult when files/programs are appearing in/disappearing from the logs.
  • Please do not run any scans other than those requested
  • Please follow all instructions in the order posted
  • All logs/reports, etc.. must be posted in Notepad. Please ensure that word wrap is unchecked. In notepad click format, uncheck word wrap if it is checked.
  • Do not attach any logs/reports, etc.. unless specifically requested to do so.
  • If you have problems with or do not understand the instructions, Please ask before continuing.
I will post back soon with additional instructions.

Thanks
Hi smith2,

We have a few thing to do first.

Please disable Spybot's teatimer as it may interfere with the cleaning process. We will re-enable it when we are done.

- this is a two step process

First step:
  • Right-click the Spybot Icon in the System Tray (looks like a blue/white calendar with a padlock symbol)
  • If you have the new version 1.5, Click once on Resident Protection, then Right click the Spybot icon again and make sure Resident Protection is now Unchecked. The Spybot icon in the System tray should now be now colorless.
  • If you have Version 1.4, Click on Exit Spybot S&D Resident
Second step, For Either Version :
  • Open Spybot S&D
  • Click Mode, choose Advanced Mode
  • Go To the bottom of the Vertical Panel on the Left, Click Tools
  • then, also in left panel, click Resident shows a red/white shield.
  • If your firewall raises a question, say OK
  • In the Resident protection status frame, Uncheck the box labelled Resident "Tea-Timer"(Protection of over-all system settings) active
  • OK any prompts.
  • Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
  • Reboot your machine fully for the changes to take effect.

Next I need you to check a couple of files at Virustotal. You will need to locate one of them first.

Open windows explorer (right click the Start button and click Explore)

At the top of windows explorer, click tools, folder options, click the view tab
  • check Display the contents of system folders
  • check Show hidden files and folders
  • uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" box
  • uncheck "Hide protecting operating system files" box
  • Click apply, click ok
Next, at the top of Windows Explorer, click Search
  • Click All files and folders
  • In the All or part of the filename box, copy and paste auzjwi.dll
  • Set the Look in: box to Local Hard Drives(x) (x denotes your hard drives)
  • Click on More advanced options
  • Make sure the Type of file is set to (All Files and folders)
  • Check Search System Files
  • Check Search Hidden Files and Folders
  • Check Search Subfolders
  • Ensure Case Sensitive is not checked
  • Click Search
When the search is complete, please note the complete filepath, you will need it in the next step. The complete filepath will consist of a drive letter, probably a foldername and the file name. For example C:\windows\system32\filename . The file will be in the right hand panel. If you have any problems locating the file, let me know, we have other ways of finding it.

Now submit the file to virustotal, please click on this link

  • Use the browse button on that page to navigate to the location you found in the above search.
  • In the right hand panel, click on the file auzjwi.dll, then click the open button.
  • The file will now be displayed in the submit box.
  • Scroll down a bit and click "send file", wait for the results and post them in your next reply.
Please note that sometimes the scans take a few minutes. Please ensure that the scan has completed and the results are complete.

After you have copied the information, Click "another file". This time copy and paste the following line into the "Upload a file" box and click "Send File"
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\winlogin.exe

Please ensure the results are clearly identified as to which file they belong to when posting them.

Thanks
Hi, Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I had to travel for work and I haven't had any time to address this. I'll be back home middle of next week and will run through the steps you provided once I get to my laptop, and then post a reply. Thanks for your help.
