I don't even know how to explain this one. When opening Firefox my Yahoo homepage search field flooded with the letter "q" continuously. I got a pop-up and tried to close it out with the "x" and then accidentally clicked the "search" button which took me to a page that started filling with more qqq's (even the window name was filling). When I tried to open Spybot from the start menu it kept opening Quicktime windows. When I tried to get to Spybot via the Windows Explorer when I double-clicked the Spybot folder it opened the Quicktime folder and highlighted and toggled through all the files within. When I rebooted it flooded my password field with qqq's again before even loading windows. I had to manually shutdown to get to "normal" and make it here.

Help!!

Help, the problem is getting worse. I cannot seem to open any program at all without it forcing open Quicktime unless I use previously made Quicklaunch buttons to open my Firefox browser which always fully floods all fields with the letter "q"
[external image: Posted Image]

DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix, Vundofix, or HijackThis fixes without supervision.

Doing so could make your pc inoperatible and could require a full reinstall of your OS, losing all your programs and data.

Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.

You might want to print these instructions out.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Next:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
 This is REALLY embarrassing…. My laptop is so old and barely alive that I have it hooked up to my old desktop monitor keyboard and mouse because the monitor and the keyboard on the laptop itself died. I had to read your reply to this topic from my other desktop because I couldn't even get to the WhattheTech pages on the laptop because of all the "q" flooding. So, I tried downloading ATF Cleaner onto a portable USB drive. As I was trying to plug it in to the ONE SINGLE USB port I have, I suddenly heard the constant "clicking" that had been happening like the computer was constantly trying to select something stop. I then noticed that the plate that I had on top of the old laptop keyboard to "protect" it from getting anything put on top of it had shifted. It must have been pressing the "q" key all this time. As I said, I thought the keyboard was dead. Apparently only mostly dead. :smack:

I'm so sorry. I still did all as requested anyway, in hopes of cleaning up this very slow, very old laptop. Is there anything else I can do?

(P.S. Meanwhile, please don't disregard my other computer's issue in the other topic I posted because I was stupid regarding this one. I have seen other people posting a similar issue and I think it was the problems with that one that lead me astray from realizing the real problems with this one. I will do the same as requested here first and then post a new Hijack This log in the other topic too)
