Hi, this is my first post, so I didn't know whether to post in the Meet and Greet as well, but I opted to just post here. My comp seems really slow and sometimes seems like there is a lot of RAM being used up while the computer is and is not being used. I know that Vista uses a lot of RAM and runs stuff in the background when not being used, it just seems like when I am using the comp, it is slow. I've cleaned up temp files, I degfrag every week, but am admittedly fairly new to Hijackthis. Here is my log, thanks.

I'm not seeing anything bad but lets have a look.

Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.

You might want to print these instructions out.

1. These tools MUST be run from the executable. (.exe)
2. With Admin Rights (Right click, choose "Run as Administrator")

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner
Right-click ATF-Cleaner.exe and select "Run as administrator" to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Then:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Right-click mbam-setup.exe, select "Run as administrator" and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.
Thanks for looking into this, I've run the ATF cleaner and Malware, logs are posted below:

Computer seems to be running a bit better, seems to take a while to boot up, and when I try to open apps it takes a while. The RAM usage at idle is always aroun 67% and now running IE7 it's up around 83%. IE7 seems to run faster, but I think that was a problem with my network that I fixed. I also thought I had 2GB of RAM, but I only have one, I also originally had XP with this system. Would adding another gig (or 3?) benefit me? Could the 1GB of RAM I have be corrupt? I haven't blown out dust inside of the CPU case in quite a while, can that actually affect performance? Thanks again!
1 gig is pretty low running Vista. I would go to 3 if possible. I'm sure that would make a huge difference. Also removing any dust is a good idea
Great thanks, so do I have the "all clear"? I can't believe I was complaining about speed when I had half the RAM I thought I did, so for 1GB, the system runs pretty decently I would say!
