Well Dang!
While doing some research browsing via FireFox looking for information about virus/trojan infections in Linux systems, I ran afoul of a site that attempted to socially engineer me into downloading Windows Antivirus 2009.
I "think" I escaped safely. And I did not accept the Download.
But I'm posting for a checkup, in hopes that you good people will spot anything that may have crept onboard.

The apparently malicious site that attempted to trick me into downloading Windows Antivirus 2009 is:
**** Caution ****
Linux Virus Scanner Free
zumo2(dot)lhosting(dot)info/spy-wareab/linux-virus-scanner-free.html
**** Caution ****
While I edited the link above so that it is not "live", I highly recommend that you "Don't Go There" because the attempted scam seemed to immediately hit my machine before the page was even fully loaded.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I realize that I have various orphaned and file missing garbage on this machine.
Otherwise, I am not experiencing any difficulty browsing or using the machine locally.
I do nightly scheduled scans with AVG8 free version. and periodically other scans manually.

Hi Doug :)

Your HJT log looks pretty good, no signs of any nasties in there. Also, the (file missing) is just a bug with certain lines and HJT v1.99.1, so you're fine as far as orphans go as well

Glad to hear you didn't fall for the social engineering "exploit" that gets so many. Windows AntiVirus 2009 is nasty one to have, so if you want to be sure you're OK I would download MalwareBytes' AntiMalware (free of course), update it, and run a "Quick Scan". Should only take 5-10 minutes, might be worth cleaning your temp files before hand though if you've got a load as that can slow it down a bit.

Good luck
Hi jpshortstuff,

I ran ATF-Cleaner and then updated/ran Malwarebytes (log below)
looks clean except for that glitchie "Broken.OpenCommand - good-bad" entry.
I researched it here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=6196

Seems like this might be a glitch in Malwarebytes that has now been corrected.
Malwarebytes has been run on this machine in the past, but I don't know when since I have "inherited it" for my own use from a previous owner.
If I read the linked information correctly, I should allow Malwarebytes to "fix" this entry.
It apparently will reset the registry value back to original MS settings.
Not "really a problem" just a glitch.

With your permission, I will allow Malwarebytes to "fix" and then I will thank you and wish you a good morning. :)

Nice to have you guys around.

The entry MBAM found relates to the action taken when you open a .reg file. The glitch you linked to relates to .scr files, I believe Bruce was saying that the glitch was how the fixed the .scr entries, not the Broken.OpenCommand as a whole.

The default value "regedit %1" (the value that MBAM will assign if you fix it) just means that double clicking a .reg file will merge it with the registry. I'm not to sure about the current value, it looks a bit like it is there so that you can select multiple .reg files at a time and opening will merge all of them. Anyway, you mentioned that you inherited the machine, so it may have been something set by your predecessor.

Conclusion: Fixing this is fine. Don't fix it if you are the one that created, or uses, the current functionality of it.

I hope that helps you make your decision.

Any more questions, problems?
Thank you jpshortstuff, I created a backup of that key and value using regedit export function. Then allowed MBAM to remove the detected item. The machine continues to run well, with absolutely no symptoms related to my "near miss" No other issues to address at this time. Thank you so very much. Doug
