yeah…that's how stupid I am….. learned today i had a trojan…. spyblaster said it was a trojan.unclassified/C00-Installer, and it said i had 3 of them, 1 in the registry, 2 in file items….. don't know why, but i guess i thought avg would be more thorough…. so i switched to AVG, it scanned and came up with one Trojan named SHeur.CPHB I quarantined it…then googled the SHeur to see what kind of mayhem it might do….. and got a similar person/similar problem on google referring me to your website…. so upon reading that saga from 2006…. I learned that just because you quarantined it, it could still be something that will pop up should you need to do a system restore at some point… all of this is very confusing to me…. i downloaded the hijackthis stuff…. rebooted, did the scan….the two windows came up….i hit save….. and now i can't find the darn thing…. it's not showing up in wordpad when i hit file. this is truly how stupid I am… pathetic huh? so where do i go from here? should i just reboot, try to get a log for you guys and do it as "save as" which is how i normally do this stuff?
found it……!!!!!!

Hi compudodo,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link –> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
3. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
4. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
5. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
WELL…. the program will not download…. i have tried repeatedly and i get the same error box everytime…. ERROR: you cannot rename combo fix as Please us another name preferably made up of alphanumeric characters. i didn't try to rename anything. I don't get it. that was from link 1. link 2 was in spanish and link 3 was a dead connection. to make sure i, i just deleted all spyware, antivirus programs from my computer….. i have a disc i can insert after all of this to reinstall them. i clicked off the windows firewall system. i have no clue why it will not install your combofix program edit: also….. is this trojan i got, the SHeur.CPHB ???? i got an email attachment from my real estate agent in pennsylvania yesterday, and thought nothing of opening the attachment…i open their attachments every day to access the houses they want to show me…but yesterday, the attachement had a complete record of every single website i had visited in the past few days….and it was all in little micro picture format….it was like a photo gallery…..i kept clicking on the arrow, and it just kept showing every single thing i had done on the web, including some on line purchases…. i mean everything….does this mean i was hacked??? p.s. again: the email he sent me had a small one line message that was totally cryptic, i didn't understand what he was referencing. the email said: perfect , your heading said it all. huh? i sent him a reply email and he has not replied back to me, I asked him to please explain what the email meant and just how he got the content of of my computer on that attachment.
compudodo,

ERROR: you cannot rename combo fix as
Please us another name preferably made up of alphanumeric characters.

This happens sometimes. Could be malware related.

to make sure i, i just deleted all spyware, antivirus programs from my computer….. i have a disc i can insert after all of this to reinstall them. i clicked off the windows firewall system.

Do not connect to the internet in that condition. Please install antivirus and turn on firewall.

I need more information before I can answer most of your questions.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot (shut down your computer then restart it).
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.
i cannot download back onto the computer all the anitvirus software, because you have to shut it all off inorder to get proper results here…and i don't know if i did it right….. so it is just easier for me to remove it…and then just re-install it when all this is over…. i just do not understand alot of the prompts and little buttons that pop up for me to push…never feels like I am doing the right thing….and usually, it has been my experience, I am not… I think i did the right thing, and it totally wasn't. so it's just easier for me to remove the programs, since you want them shut off anyway. sorry. i really am a total ignoramous on these things…i just don't get it…. they are just too complicated.

ok here are the scans:

edit:

edit again…. i removed the emails, did another mbam scan and computer is still clean…

also…Tom, I wanted to say hi….. very rude of me not to have said hi and thankyou for hanging in here with me…. i am all alone in the world, and i just wanted you to know it is gratifying for me that you are a tom…my dad was a tom too….. as you might see from my email addy…..he always called me tex (didn't want a girl..heck, back in the 50's no one ever wanted a girl)…but thank you Tom for all your help
I deleted the emails from them, they were just making me nervous…then i performed another mbam log…and computer is still clean
compudodo,

i cannot download back onto the computer all the anitvirus software, because you have to shut it all off inorder to get proper results here…and i don't know if i did it right….. so it is just easier for me to remove it…and then just re-install it when all this is over

If you go online without an Anti-virus and a firewall, it's like leaving your house for work and leaving the front door open. There is no guarantee that you will get robbed, but there is nothing to stop it happening. You begin to rely on luck. When a helper on one of these forums has you disable the resident protection part of your anti-virus software, you are not turning the whole anti-virus program off. Just the resident protection part. It is more like leaving your house without locking the deadbolt but shutting and latching the door. Do you need help to reinstall your anti-virus and turn on your firewall? If so ask and I will help you. If you are able to do it, do it before proceeding.

should i delete those emails and the attachments???

My rule of thumb is Don't open email if you don't know who it's from, and Never, NEVER, download an attachment in an email if you don't know who sent it to you and why they sent it. Before I'm done with you, I'll give you some more advice for the future.

If, in the future, you get confused by something related to your computer, come back here and post a question in one of the forums. There are alot of really friendly and helpful people here who will help you and answer your questions with as much detail as you require. You can also pick up alot of tips by just reading various topics in the forums. We are all volunteers who are here to help you. We don't mind trying to answer your questions.

Now, let's continue:

see??? this is when i have a total meltdown….i go to kaperswhatever….. it won't let me accept anything, because it says i have to download the latest version of java… so i go to java….. and it says, see what your machine will support…it does it's little computer dance…and says, Congratulations, you already have the latest version of java but the kaperwhatever website is saying, no you don't and to make me suffer, has the accept button whited out, so I can't proceed. I HATE COMPUTERS…I CAN"T TELL YOU HOW FREAKING INSANE THEY MAKE ME AND HOW MUCH I HATE HOW DISGUSTING STUPID THEY MAKE ME….. EDIT: ok…. i had 3 versions of java on my control panel…update version 3, update version 6 and update version 10…. i went and removed the versions 3 and 6…… and experienced a fatal error….. was going to completely eradicate Java version 10 and thought better of it…thought it might make it impossible for me to read emails or access anything…. so now what? according to Java, I have the right program…according to Kaper whatever…..i do not
compudodo,

You're not stupid and don't take it personally. It happens. It's my fault. I know that happens sometimes so I thought about having you run a different scanner but I like that one best. I decided to try it. Didn't work. Don't stress. We'll run a different one and I bet this one works.

I need you to run the following scan: Eset Online Scanner

  • Place a check mark in the box YES, I accept the Terms Of Use
  • Click the Start button.
  • Now click the Install button.
  • Click Start. The scanner engine will initialize and update.
  • Do Not place a check mark in the box beside Remove found threats.
  • Click the Scan button. The scan will now run, please be patient.
  • When the scan finishes click the Details tab.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the C:\ProgramFiles\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt into your next reply.
NO IT WON'T WORK!!!!!!!!! I went to the website….i clicked accept…and it redirected me to a blank page….there is nothing on it but a bit white box with a little tiny box up in the upper left hand corner with some red, green and blue triangles/ rectangles or some such geometric shapes….there is nothing showing forget that edit comment….the reply you sent me finally showed up oh…i forgot.. i also got error boxes saying the incd helper is not properly installed and another program that was not properly installed
compudodo,

Alright. This tool almost always runs. It tells me a whole lot about your computer. Let's see if I can find out what is messing you up. It runs pretty fast. Makes a big report. Doesn't fix anything but will give me more clues to what is happening.

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<info.txt (<

i don't know if this is relevant or not…but someone made this computer for me…because i have been out of work for over a year now…. and my computer died..so this kid went and made this computer for me…. and i have never been able to use a disc… there is a slot for discs, and he said he installed that feature…but i have never been able to use any discs…. i always used to go to my computer, click on something, (i forget now what, specifically, cause i am an old post menopausal woman with no brain cells left, ) but I remember then being able to click on a specific drive or something..and pop a disc in and then retrieve whatever info was on the disc…. can't do that … also, something silly i have noticed….there are alt+ commands…. alt + a certain number, should get you a certain letter or symbol…and my computer can't do any of that either…. edit: LORD…. other people are starting to read this….. this is getting to be a great soap opera huh?? jeesh.

Please right-click on Start in the lower left corner of your screen
Left-click on Explore
In the left window pane, left-click on Local Disk (C:)
In the right window pane, double click on the folder called rsit
Double click on the file called log.txt. This should open the file in notepad.
