After running A squared anti malware, after booting up, I get this error message: run.dll.C:/progra~1/mywebs~1/bar/1.bin m3plugin.dll specified module. Anything to try or just do a restore point????? You think A squared was an okay thing to pick, or should I ditch it and use something else???? My mother said you guys told her to use antimalwarebytes and she liked it. OH It's an XP home edition OS
:welcome: Computer Mom,

I would suggest you do a Systems Restore firstly.

Then I would suggest you download and install SuperAntispyware Free as it is an excellent program and one we recommend often.

Perhaps A_Squared is not for your system configuration for some unknown reason, to replace it, download and install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware free . I ran into another post recently re A_Squared , when the person unintalled it and replaced it with the two programs I have suggested, their troubles were over.

Post back if you need more assistance please.

kind regards,
Please go here as you may still be infected.
I have heard of issues with a squared. Tallin gave some great information on other applications.
However, you need a clean bill of health from a Mal-ware expert.

Okay the system restore did not work. I still cannot get online. Still getting that same error message after booting up.

Please follow HFCG's good advice as given in post # 3.

You did not say you could not access the internet in your first post. Are you posting from a different computer to reply to this thread with your problems?

kind regards,
That is correct- I am using another computer to try to learn how to figure this out. The error message I keep getting is error run.dll.C:/progra~1/mywebs~1/bar/1.binm3plugin.dll I TRIED to do a fairly far back restore point, but it kept telling me that it could not restore because of an I or L drive???? Is that the external hard drive I sometimes put on??? aaaaargh. Maybe try to find a restore point where I didn't have the external drive attached? I'm really confused.
Hello again,

Have you got the Operating System CD for Wndows XP for the computer with the problem? Please post back with this information before I take you to the next step.

kind regards,
No, I don't have the rescue disc- we've moved 3 times since we bought the computer, and we probably have it but in some box in the garage somewhere… could we use any XP rescue disc, from a different computer? This one is a Sony Vaio…. we might have the one from a Toshiba laptop…

Hi,

Yes you can borrow the exact Windows XP CD (just for this particular scan) as long as it has the very same service pack on it that you have. Your profile does not tell me if you are running Service Pack 1, 2 or 3, so please
  • Right click on My Computer on your desktop
  • Scroll to Properties
  • Post back and tell me the detail about your Windows XP OS please
Then when you have borrowed the exact OS CD I can post what I suggest you to do with it…..

kind regards,
Hello- this is getting frustrating I guess.. I found the disc from our toshiba- which really broke down a while back- I can't even check which service pack it had. This computer is a Sony 2002 version and running with the xp service pack 1 The Toshiba was a 2005, so I don't know what service pack that was.
Hi again,

Please post back details after following my previous post………….thanks.

If the CD OS you found matches what it says when following the previous post, then I suggest you do the following:

Backup/archive/copy

To be on the safe side I strongly recommend that before doing anything at all you check that your back up/archive/copy of all your important data, drivers, files, settings, work, etc is 100% up to date accurate and reproducible, (even if your back up is even only a day or so out of date, it's worth updating it now.)
Also don't forget to check that you have all your application Installation CD's to hand together with the product keys (including those for Windows itself)

Windows Protected System File Checker SFC

  • Start
  • Run
  • type:sfc /scannow (note the space between c /)
  • Have your Win XP installation disc handy as if damaged files are found they will need to be copied across from your disc, if SFC can't find correct copies elsewhere.
Windows XP Installation disc not available or wrong Service Pack - SP1 when SP2 is needed

There are work- arounds to this problem but the easiest, by far is to borrow one and use that. It is perfectly OK to do this, for the purposes of running SFC,and if you ask around all your friends, you are likely to find someone who will be able to help you out.

SFC no disc, no friends able to help.

Well you will need to do it the harder way and as a registry edit will be required it is essential that you back up your registry before you do anything else. Then in the event of trouble it will be easier to repair your registry. Download ERUNT from here: (http://www.snapfiles.com/get/erunt.html) and take a moment to familiarise yourself with the programme and how to repair your registry with it if it should become necessary. At the same time it would be wise to create a System Restore point, post back here if you need instructions on how to do this.

For the alterations needed to run SFC If you go here (http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html) you will find detailed instructions on the copying of files and the system changes you need to make. When you have followed all the instructions, reboot you machine and try to run SFC again, and please let us know how you go.
