A friend has given me his laptop to have a look at. He complained of it running slowly and thinks he may have a virus. When I started it up the first thing I noticed was the following in the system tray:
09:08:VIRUS ALERT!
Then under the Start Menu the All Programs link was missing. I found the following post on this forum and followed the advice there:
http://forums.whatthetech.com/Virus_Alert_…e_t_t93049.html
SDFix seemed to do quite a bit - I now have All Programs back for instance. However, the VIRUS ALERT! text is still there. I'm also not able to run USB disks on the laptop or access the Administrator account, while I can do both under Safe Mode. Following the advice from that thread I include reports from SDFix and HijackThis.
TIA
