I've downloaded something from REMOVED Site: LDT, it showed up as a setup, and I opened it. stupid I know. It changed my desktop, filled it with shortcuts to antivirus programs, spyware programs and so on. The desktop itself is a link. It hid my local disk and another hdd, and left me with one. The drives are there, cause the shortcuts are working, and so on. It disabled my task manager, control panel, run, search, troubleshoot…everything. I cannot acces local disk, nor program files, nothing. It "want me to register, with payment, to an antispyware, malware, adware and antivirus software. It's really bad. How can I get rid of it for pete's sake? Help, cause its really bad. Oh, it lets me access the internet, winamp which is on local disk, games and everything. But it wont stop downloading, scanning, and switching from task to task by itself. It's quite annoying. Do i really need to reinstall my windows again?
Reboot into SAFE MODE With Networking By pressing the F8 key right when Windows starts, usually right after you hear your computer
beep when you reboot it (some versions of windows will display 'Starting Windows' with a grey progress bar)
you will be brought to a menu where you can choose to boot into safe mode.
If it does not work on the first try, reboot and try again, as you have to be quick when you press it.
I have found that during boot up, right after the computer displays the equipment , memory, etc
installed on your computer, if you start lightly tapping the F8 key, the system will usually display the menu.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Copy/Paste the log to your next reply please.
Don't use the Analyse This button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted. Don't have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
Thank you, but in the same evening I posted this, the trouble got real annoying, and I moved the necessary files onto another partition, and reinstalled my windows. Oh, and I tried working offline and trying to remove the files from that program, but they were well-hidden and when I found something, they came back. Rude virus. Anyway, thanks again.
