I will post the log file below, but describe my problem first. I have a Dell XPS 410 desktop running Windows Vista. Windows Defender notifies me that I have been invaded by a trojan. Under "Name" it has Trojan:Win32/Vundo.gen!P When I ask Defender to quarantine it, it says it needs to get more info, then I get the error message "error:0x80501001"

Among the many symptons are that the computer runs slowly, freezes frequently especially when using Explorer browser to surf the net, pop ads are frequent, popups offering to scan the PC and get malware removal sofware…a real mess.

I should say that I am not posting this from the infrected computer, because after I downloaded HijackThis and saved a scan, my computer would no longer let me go iinto your forum; I could only go to pages on your site unrelated to removing infections! Also, if I tried to use HijackThis in any way on the PC, I would get the message "For some reason your system denied write acces to the Hosts file…."

I will paste the log now –I believe this would be the scan made before I encountered the new problem trying to run HijackThis second time. I can no longer save a scan log with the program. (Perhaps if I uninstalled and reinstalled the program I could; I will wait for your advice.
